For the second consecutive day, Mike Huckabee made public statements suggesting John McCain ought not pick Mitt Romney as his running mate.
“I think there are better choices for Sen. McCain that have the approval of value voters,” Huckabee said today on Fox News. Yesterday, he told CBS that many Republicans are "not necessarily comfortable" with Romney because of his changed positions.
At the same time, Huckabee's Michigan supporters met with McCain social conservative liaison Marlys Popma last night in Saginaw. Though ostensibly held to discuss how Huckabee's loyalists can help McCain, supporters of the former Arkansas governor also used the get-together to warn against tapping Romney, according to an attendee.
Elizabeth Sipfle, who called me without prompting, said picking Huckabee's detested primary rival would amount to a poke in the eye of Huckabee's supporters.
"We made it clear that we want Huckabee to be recognized," said Sipfle, an Oakland County lawyer who chaired the Michigan effort of the volunteer "Huck's Army." "When you snub him, you snub GOP votes."
Sipfle said she and her fellow Huckabee supporters were disappointed when a former Romney aide who is now working for McCain showed up at the meeting.
"It just was bad taste — and it didn't go unnoticed," she said.

Hey, the prize is the hand in marriage of another Liberal Republican. Clearly the winner will be the Daily Kos.
Do I REALLY need to say it?
They REALLY need to get over it.
I wonder if Romney got the nod, given this kind of last minute talk. You can’t help but to think this is the public end of some behind the scenes stuff. Huckabee hasn’t said a word about Romney since the primary. Why now?
Huckabee sounds like a sore loser.
I truly hope that neither do! Let’s seriously have either Sarah Palin or Eric Cantor as the final VP choice for McCain!
We dont ned another RINO...
About the only difference between Huckabee and Romney is ..
Huckabee is 10 years youngert than old Romney...
huckabee is pro-life while Rom,ney is pro-abortion...
We need a young conservative for VP...
With at least 1 conservative on the ticket, we might have a chance to beat Obama...
Eric Cantor would be a great VP ...
He is all conservative and he is already much more well known and respected than most of the also rans like Romney...
If he's a sore loser, his ire should be directed at McCain rather than Romney. This seems more like an Evangelical-Mormon grudge match on Huck's part.
Agreed. I can’t vote for McCain, but I could vote for a good, conservative VP. Huck and Mitt aren’t it.
BTW, technically I would be voting for McCain, but if he picks a conservative running mate, I would actually consider it a vote to set up a conservative for election four years from now. If Mitt or Huck is picked, they will have a definite advantage four years from now. I simply can’t support that.
Huckster has been trashing Mitt long enough...
Many of us conservative christians prefer mormon Mitt
over the un-christianlike Huck-la-Ark.
Seriously. Afterall McCain did win the primary not Mitt.
I like Sarah Palin and it is no wonder that so many conservatives are fans of hers but I wish people would stop suggesting her for VP. The party of traditional values should not be taking a mother of an infant (with Down’s Syndrome no less)and putting her in a position that demands almost no time for that child. Give her a few years to be a mother and get her family into a position that can responsibly see her out of the picture 12-20 hours a day.

Governor Palin for VP!
She's much better looking than Myth and the Huckster.
“The Huck effort to block Mitt for veep”
Hasn’t that actually been his role from day one?
Huck is right. Mitt would be an AWFUL choice. Thanks.
I have to agree with Huck. Both he and Romney would be bad choices. I don’t think VP is a training slot for conservatism. I didn’t think that was the case for President either. I hope Huck keeps this up. I don’t want to see either of them. McCain could choose Chuck Norris. Now that would be a pick! lol
Romney would be awful, and I personally don’t care who “blocks” him. He has a lot of money, which is probably what makes him attractive to McCain, but he’s another raving liberal.
Haven’t got time to go back and review your last 3.5 years of posts to see where you come in, but I’m guessing you’ve worked in RINO campaigns.
Huck, the man who made sure we had McCain? He can go pound sand.
