Family dog attacks and severely hurts child, 6 (Pit bull, again)
Anchorage Daily News ^ | August 13, 2008 | By JAMES HALPIN

A pit bull that severely mauled a young girl inside her East Anchorage home Tuesday afternoon was shot by a neighbor who followed screams to the scene to find the girl's baby sitter fighting the dog in the front yard.

The girl's injuries were so severe that witnesses at first told police the 6-year-old was dead, killed in the attack by one of her family's pets.

The girl, however, was still alive and was rushed to Alaska Native Medical Center, where she underwent surgery Tuesday afternoon for what police called life-threatening injuries to her neck and head. Her mother was at the hospital.

"The girl has been transported in critical condition to the hospital," police Lt. Paul Honeman said. "It took a long time to get that girl stabilized."

I read that the "girl's baby SISTER", and boy did the story seem funny at that point.

I wish the MSM would report when other breeds commit these violent acts. It does happen just as often with other breeds = Cognitive dissonance

It would be interesting to see if there were any previous owners to this dog.

I don't know what you are getting at, I wrote that nobody at FR has called me a racist for blaming the dog owners.
I believe that my pitbull has many redeeming qualities. She is a certified therapy dog and enjoys regular visits to the nursing homes in my community. We recently visited a local hospital children's burn unit. She actually crawled up in bed with the children and cuddled with them. Daisy increases the quality of life in many people and I am quite proud of that.

That’s not true. Pit bulls do not need to be trained to be aggressive.
Pit owners need to stop spreading the myth that pit bulls are just like every other breed of dog. They need special care, and people that are not willing to put in the same amount of time they would give to a child should not even think about owning one.

It’s a bigger responsibility than owning a Lab, or any other ‘soft’ breed.

I work closely with a pitbull adoption agency. We frequently have to euthanize dogs because of the TRAINING that they recieved from their owners. We do not have to euthanize pitbulls that are turned over by owners because they can't take care of them. These are owners who have never fought their dogs, they simply weren't ready to be dog owners. As to responsibility, my in-laws have a chocolate lab. They have spent more money on the lab's vet bills than we have our pit vet bills. They have had complaints from neighbors due to excessive barking and him not staying in the yard. Our neighbors stock dog biscuits for our dog. Bad comparison there.

The route I follow when I run has a few dogs behind very tall fences (6 foot +). Naturally, I hear dogs barking as I lumber past.
One spot in particular, I not only hear the dog barking and snarling, but you can hear him trying to get through or over the fence. I'm betting he's a Pit or a Weinerama (sp?).

“I wish the MSM would report when other breeds commit these violent acts. It does happen just as often with other breeds”

Do some people actually harbor the ridiculous notion that if an Airedale or a Poodle or a Australian Shepherd seriously mauls a child that it just goes unreported because of a conspiracy against PB’s by the media? That there is some kind of Jim Crow laws against pit bulls and the media is just out to get them by portraying them as vicious killers while letting other breeds off the hook?

Respectfully, I have known families who loved their pits from day one, and the thing STILL turned on them without warning, injuring two kids I am aware of.

Chow Chows, Cocker Spaniels, and Chihuahuas actually attack humans more than pitbulls. When was the last time that you heard or read something about that?
