Democrats Shrug Off Edwards' Affair, Paternity Questions
Sunday, August 10, 2008

WASHINGTON — While many questions remain unanswered regarding John Edwards' affair with a woman he hired to produce videos of him, some Democrats are already writing off the impact of the news.

**SNIP**

But Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, a strong supporter of presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, said he didn't know whether Edwards' shot at getting a slot in an Obama administration has been dashed by the revelations.

**SNIP**

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, who also was a presidential candidate this year, said he was not going to "pile on" to Edwards.

"Obviously, he let a lot of people down. I feel for Elizabeth. But, you know, the public is forgiving. Obviously, this is something between himself and his family and voters. You know, I feel for that family. I still believe that John Edwards is committed to reducing poverty. I think his concern in the campaign was genuine," he told ABC's "This Week."

"This is a difficult period. You know, but I'm just not going to be one of those that pile on,' Richardson continued.

National Review writer Byron York said the fallout from Edwards' affair may not hurt Obama, but it leaves Edwards' future in doubt.

"Barack Obama has such a squeaky-clean family image. But it's not over. I don't think anybody in political circles, including Democrats, believes ... Edwards' claim that he is not the father of this child," York told "FOX News Sunday".

**SNIP**

Washington Post reporter Ruth Marcus said the impact on Democrats overall has been limited by the decision by John and Elizabeth Edwards to stay out of Denver.

You know, but I'm just not going to be one of those that pile on,' Richardson continued.

Sure. But aren't there laws against being a deadbeat dad?

It's not just a personal issue, it's an issue of national security and the safety of this nation.

John Edwards was in no small way being blackmailed. How would that have impacted him if he held (God forbid and He did in their mercy) the office of POTUS? Would the bribe money come from the military budget instead of his campaign funds this time?!? What if the Chinese and Russians who probably knew about this already, decided that this was leverage for the conquest of Taiwan or Georgia?

Rats just don't get it. People like this are a threat not just to themselves, but their lack of personal character is a threat to every single citizen of the United States and possibly the entire world.

Only of Democrats.

Edwards isn’t a deadbeat dad.
He’s been funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars to his side family.
Edwards believes in two Americas, so it only makes sense that he would have two families. One for each America.

There’s the America where children have fathers, and the America where they don’t. An America where mothers have husbands and one where they don’t. An America where a man loves the mother of his child, and one where he does not.
John Edwards is simply doing his part to bridge these two Americas.

Typical Dems: “Immorality isn’t immoral, unless the culprit isn’t one of us.”

But, you know, the public is forgiving.

Particularly forgiving of Democrats. Such behavior has become commonplace - almost expected - for them.

His wife is dying of cancer! He lied during his entire run for president! The lib reaction to this is just despicable. Is there anything these people wouldn’t excuse, explain away, or ignore? What about the money?!?! They just don’t care where the money came from? The Dem leadership may be completely Godless, but the folks are not. I think they are wrong that people won’t hold this against the Dems generally. The media blackout, the excuses, just compound the sleaziness of it.

The danger to Edwards is not that he’s a deadbeat dad but that most likely campaign donations were funnelled to the woman. That is clearly against the law.

The dems and their cohorts in the MSM will do everything in their power to sweep this under the rug.

Of course. If it does come out that campaign money was going to her, you're going to have and endless stream of "legal scholars" (Jonathan Turley comes to mind) on cable TV shows saying things like "well, in point of fact, you see, the that would appear to forbid this kind of transaction are not as clear-cut as some in the media seem to think."

Well, if this was only about the sex, it would be one thing but what about the payoff and the cover up. It looks highly likely that laws were broken. It’s the cover up, stupid.

Here's my big fat question:

Why did Johnny come clean last Friday? The MSM had done a fine job of protecting him so far, and his skank was getting enough money to keep satisfied. If she was trying to extort him for more, and he went public to stop the escalation of cash flow, she'd have had ample reason to spring for the DNA test and really embarass him.

What did he have to gain by spilling the beans now? Was it just a timing issue, he didn't want it to come out during the Dims convention, or he just picked a night when the world's attention would be focused on the Olympics? Or was there some deeper reason, which is yet to emerge?

Why did Johnny come clean last Friday?

The big RATS forced him to do it. Otherwise, he wouldn't be invited to Denver.

Hush money doesn't count. Pretty boy is looking at, at least, 18 years of payments.

The only reason Mr. and Mrs. Edwards are staying away from Denver, is what Obama intimated in his statement about the affair. He mentioned something about 'hearing' that the Edwards' were no longer planning to attend the convention, didn't he? I would take that as a thinly veiled dis-invite...

Anyone know where Hunter and Young are now?
