Come on, Bush: Don’t abandon a good ally. Don’t do a Chamberlain. A united response (and it does NOT have to be military) can save Georgia, and by extension the New Europe, and thus, the Old. Don’t go wobbly, Mr. President!

Seriously, this is all the more heroic because they are sitting ducks. And Russia can escalate this thing in a hurry. I guess they are counting on the idea that Russia does not want things to develop too quickly—but is that faith misplaced?

Here at last is some good news. Looks like SOMEONE is willing to put their butt on the line for Georgia.

Handzlik said details of the trip were still being settled.

Right. Letting the neo-Soviets know too much certainly wouldn't help.

"The presidents of five ex-communist countries"

How many divisions do they have?

I just hope my friend TTK got out of Russia before this hit the fan, he lives here in Tarpon Springs and went home to Estonia last week to visit family and was going to St Petersburg, RU on business and pleasure.

What are you thinking might happen in St Pete?

President Bush will probably send lightweight Rice over there as emissary/mediator.

She'll want to give away the store like she does with Israel.

We are always so screwed.

I still probably wouldn’t have backed this, with Bush alone. With the Presidents of the region taking this action, I firmly support Bush joining them.

It would be a grand gesture, but I would rather wait to see if these five Presidents can make a difference before injecting America into the equation. Why not see if Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine can win the day?

Anyone know where Barak stands on this? Has he issued a statement yet?

Maybe he's out in the garage inflating his tires.

Just the fact that TTK was Estonian born now that Estonia is stepping up to the plate in Georgia.

Kudos to Kaczynski and his counterparts from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine. Three cheers for the bunch of them.

Looks like SOMEONE is willing to put their butt on the line for Georgia.

Does the president want a legacy worthy of the mention?

Maybe he'll settle for sending more taxpayer dollars to Africa to 'fight AIDs', but here, it seems, is a real opportunity.

The Polish have always been some of the bravest people in the world. Even here in the U.S. among Americans of Polish descent. I noticed many years ago how many polish last names there are of those in the U.S. military. As a collective group, some of the best looking people too I’ve noticed. All anecdotal of course, just my own observations.

Jenny, the only reason I support it, is because it so clearly let’s the people of Georgia know we care. I’m not for upstaging any of the other leaders per se. I just want no mistake about it, that we are sort of blood brothers with the Georgians on this. Russia needs to know that.

This neo-Soviet rhetoric reminds me of Obama playing the race card.

By the way, what will make the Kremlin mafia stop at “ethnic Russians”? When you least expect it, they will be speaking for all Slavs (you know, like Communists when they speak “for the people”).

Brave move.

This will be more effective than anything the US or the West could do.

As another Freeper mentioned in another thread, Obama has demanded that Bush redeploys troops from Iraq to Atlanta.

Some real action.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Hawaii:
Obama: “War is bad. After I Google ‘Georgia’, I’ll have more to say”
