Yes, Absence of Malice was a great film... Even with the badly miscast Sally Field.

Sad news. One of the truly great enduring stars who through countless movies never seemed to have a bad performance. His politics are another thing but at least he wasn’t totally anti-American like his colleague Redford (who’s a lousy actor to boot!).

while his politics are misguided, society will lose a good man. The collective comments reflected here are a testimony to the calibre and quality of those who post on FR, particularly when compared with those on the Daily Kos on the death of Tony Snow.

He reportedly has lung cancer. Not brain cancer.

Comedian Bernie Mac died early this morning.

What? Wow! Shocking - he was a young man.

Excellent observation!

Regarding “Cool Hand Luke”, I watched if a few years ago on TV.
And was suprised to notice what stellar supporting cast it had.

George Kennedy
J.D. Cannon
Dennis Hopper
Harry Dean Stanton
Ralph Waite (father on “The Waltons”)
Anthony Zerbe
Joe Don Baker

And the charachter actor that gave us a timeless sound clip
on the topic of communication...
Stother Martin

I only hope he wasn’t liberal to the point of denying God....it matters now.

I’ve watched Butch Cassidy dozens of times and ALWAYS skip that scene. Not only is it a blemish on the movie, it has nothing to do with the movie.

Everybody has to go sometime. I really liked the guy, even though his politics stunk.

God rest ye, Paul.

I was a big Rockford Files fan myself.

As to Newman, all reports are that he was as stand up and good a man as anyone in the public eye. He seems to have lived a good life and, in return, lived a good life.

No, I haven’t tended to believe in some of his politics, but I’ve no evidence that he didn’t come by them earnestly and I never want to go the route of liberals (or conservatives) who can’t respect those they disagree with: I know I’m not the ultimate judge of anything in this world.

I liked him in “ The Color of Money “

Two other actors I really liked were John Cusack and Ed Harris, then finding out they were outspoken left-wing nuts. Now I can’t stomach watching any of their films anymore. It’s just not the same.

Sad news. The tabloid mafia sharks will not have the decency to leave a dying man alone. I hate how they exploit people’s suffering.

I loved him in "Hud". He was a real really a mean guy and someone you could love to hate. Him and Liz Taylor were the best in their time.

Looks like another set of threes is about to happen. Comedian Bernie Mac died early this morning.

Don't know if these are just an artifact of the human penchant for systematizing by pattern recognition, but the first three I remember was Elvis (8-16-77), Groucho (8-19-77) and Zero (9-8-77). Three of my all-time favorite performers, all good enough to be known by one name.
