I have been wondering why a non Christian Jew, Eric Cantor, is getting a push from those who will not accept Mitt Romney as a candidate based on their belief that Mormons are not Christian. Also, has anybody run this latest Vice President find past the 9 million evangelicals that we are told hold the Republican party hostage to their approval of a candidates religious affiliation? I personally cannot be pushed any further with this nonsense. Are Republicans to accept less than a top tier person for our party because of blackmail from one group of religious followers? Pick the right person for the job and let the chips fall where they may.
Good question. I like Cantor over Romney, but not because of religious reasons (I’m a Christian BTW). Cantor has solid conservative credentials, Romney ..... doesn’t.
Here’s your reasons:
(1) Romney is a stone cold liberal who panders to get votes.
(2) Cantor is a proven conservative.
(3) On the religious angle, I will prefer an observant Jewish person over a Mormon, since the Jewish person’s faith is based on 75% of my own Bible, whereas the Mormon’s faith is based on a false set of writings.

The most important and pertinent is that Cantor has an actual real life long Conservative record. No excuses, no "personally pro life" but taking pro choice stands on public policy, Cantor stands on principal. That above anything else is what is important, we support Cantor over Mitt because Eric is a CONSERVATIVE.
It also answers your "blackmail" point which is laughable at best. It is not 9 million Evangelicals(low number there BTW) that are against Mitt because of his faith, indeed many like him, it is millions of CONSERVATIVES for whom he either has not made his case or they have finally paid attention to he record instead of his rhetoric. His stances are more than enough to dismiss him as an ideal candidate, period.
Now for the rest, for me, and this is me personally though it maybe for others as well, and is not nearly as important as the political issue, the issue with Mitt's faith is it's very nature. Jews are Jews, they follow biblical truth, they are a part of our historical linage. Jews are Jewish, and pretend to be nothing else, as are Buddhist and even Muslims (not that I would want either of the latter in office).
Not so LDS. They claim to be the only Christian Faith, indeed their leaders reject the rest of us as Gentiles, and yet follow something so alien to the true Christian faith that for them Christianity is almost a mask. To make matters worse they feign insult and demand to be treated as fellow Christians, whilst in their very sacraments basically damn the lot of us as followers of false doctrine. There is no hypocrisy in supporting Cantor, he comes from a noble faith, not a fantasy.
There is something else. People of the Jewish faith are our friends and treat us as such, indeed many of these "bigots" your team keeps assailing hail from Churches that hold Israel and it's people in high regard.
