CBSNews.com: So, Tom Ridge, who's been discussed. You think
Richard Land: That would be a catastrophe.
CBSNews.com: Whos on the list of people mentioned for VP that you think would most excite Southern Baptists and other members of the conservative faith community?
Richard Land: Probably Governor Palin of Alaska, because she's a person of strong faith. She just had her fifth child, a Downs Syndrome child. And there's a wonderful quote that she gave about her baby, and the fact that she would never, ever consider having an abortion just because her child had Downs Syndrome. She's strongly pro-life.
CBSNews.com: And what about Mitt Romney?
Richard Land: I think Mitt Romney would be an excellent choice. There are people in the evangelical community who would have a problem with his Mormonism. I am not one of them. I mean, I'm very clear that I do not believe Mormonism is a Christian faith. But that does not disqualify someone from being President or Vice President. And my guess would be that, probably, about 15 to 20 percent of the evangelical community would have a problem with his Mormonism.
I'll tell you another choice that I think would ring a lot of bells among evangelical and Catholic social conservatives, and I think could have some real electoral punch to it, is Eric Cantor, the congressman from Richmond. He's the fourth highest person in the House leadership. He is a conservative, observant Jew, a one hundred percent pro-life voting record. And if he picked Cantor, that would probably help hold Virginia. And it would increase McCain's percentage of the Jewish vote in Florida and Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

What are you talking about? Did you just pull that out from under your armpit?
We are talking Veep here, my friend, and it doesn’t matter.
Get it?
lol. Sounds right. Burnt toast is simply too compelling compared to Tom Ridge. But a box of hair, assuming there is NOTHING at all interesting about it? Plain brown box? Grey hairs of a normal length? Sure, that works. :-)
I really don’t think the selection of VP can help you. It can hurt you, however.
“ANY infant deserves better mothering than that, and especially an infant with a serious disability.”
Mega bump. FWIW I got flamed for blasting Palin who returned to work a few days after giving birth. Some idiot bots were applauding her work ethic and weren’t too happy being reminded that she just became a Mom.
Besides hosting a popular radio show on Religious Liberty and Ethics, he was appointed by Pres. George W. Bush in 2001 to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, a Federal Agency created in 1988.
Land's education includes: A.B., Princeton University
Th.M., New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary
D.Phil., University of Oxford
Land is a prolific writer, with his most recent book, The Divided States of America? What Liberals and Conservatives are Missing in the God-and-Country Shouting Match! published by Thomas Nelson. Prior to that, he authored Imagine! A God-Blessed America (Broadman & Holman, 2005) and Real Homeland Security (Broadman & Holman, 2004). His other books include: For Faith & Family, The Earth Is The Lord's, Life At Risk, Citizen Christians, and Christians In The Public Square.
And I rest my case.
Nowhere, does Land "warn" McCain on anything or anyone at all.
Headline writers show their obvious bias which has many remarking things like, "who cares what Land thinks," "who is Land anyway and who cares what he thinks........"
Perhaps Ridge would make that great Veep choice for Obama.
The only "evangelical leaders" are those leftists from say the leftist leaning World Council of Churches that endorse any dictatorship or leftist government around the world.
As to the term "evangelical" it has been hijacked by the left merely to cloud and confuse the uninformed.
My pastor from Prestonwood is one of the signators and he is far from leftist. I'm going to another church now.
If McCain picks a politician for VP that thinks killing babies is just swell, he’ll lose a ton of christian support and the election. He’ll deserve to considering that he should of known better.
But at least the Mormons believe that Jesus was God’s son, while the Jewish people do not.
I don’t believe the LDS faith is inherently Christian, but I think it’s more likely a particular Mormon has a saving faith in Jesus than a particular Jew.
“other than the fact that he’s the most liberal Governor in the history of the republic.”
Exaggerate much?
Did you even read the da*ned article?
If McCain picks a pro-baby death VP, he deserves to lose.
Apparently, Richard Land has studied the issue , and believes that you are mistaken.
I wouldn’t include Prestonwood as “leftist” churches but Global Warning is a HOAX and any pastor who signs on to it, is more indicative of their education in religion NOT science!
Why do you say that? He has said that both Cantor and Romney are acceptable.
It’s others that are happy to support Cantor but refuse to support Romney because he isn’t a Christian.
