Russian television Friday showed a convoy of Russian tanks and said they were heading into the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia as escalating tensions over the region threatened to boil into full blown conflict.

Wow, be interesting to see what happens here. Unfortunately for me I haven’t been following this closely.
obviously they didn’t learn anything from their last visit to Afganistan. I don’t think this will go as smoothly as they planned
This is probably a game of chicken here.
I have to say I’m quite interested in gauging the quality of the Russian military. My guess is that they are not up to this task at all.
Georgia sent thousands of men to Iraq. What is America doing to help Georgia ?
The US have bases and a lot of personnal there.
Prayers for our Soldiers on the ground in Georgia. We have some there conducting training.

Concrete shielding - uhhh, concrete shielding?
Hey, anybody know where a guy can get six feet of concrete radiation shielding in a San Francisco on a Friday - quick?
Why aren’t we threatening the Russians to back off in order to protect our Georgian friends? The Russians may be brutal but they’re not crazy and if they see that we are firm on them, they’ll back off.
Afghanistan has a population of 30 million.
Georgia has a population of 4 million.
The odds are in Moscow's favor.
Bush will have to handle this crisis while he is in Beijing.
Wonder what the Chinese think?
We need to stay out of this one for the obvious reasons. I’m not even sure that Russia is wrong here. We would be doing the same thing if Texas was taken over by a Mexican majority and was supressing an American minority in the Panhandle (at least I hope the USA will do something when that happens in about a decade).
That, and the Georgians are more civilized, probably don’t like fighting as much as the Afghans, and will likely first try negotiating or bribing the Russians to leave.
Timing is everything, isn't it?
What is America doing to help Georgia ?
We couldn’t defend ourselves with Democrats in charge,

Ain’t gonna happen.
i figured as much last night.
Something tells me Bush’s stay in Beijing will be shortened.
The Russians were defeated in Afghanistan by tactics, not merely by being outnumbered. That said, this is likely to be a more standard military conflict. The problem for Russia is that they are clearly in violation of Georgia’s sovereignty, so I don’t know how that’s going to fly.
