Hence my earlier point about quantity having a quality all its own.
If it comes down to a prolonged conflict, I fully expect Georgia to lose. I also expect the Russians to take hideous casualties, far more than they could possibly expect.
They’re fighting Georgians trained and equipped with US and Western gear. Sales claims to the contrary, Russian gear just *isn’t* as good as Western counterparts, even their front-line stuff.

However, they do have quite a few veterans that are up on modern tactics and equipment - Georgians have been more than pulling their weight in Afghanistan and Iraq.

I recall from articles in the past several months regarding this tension that Turkey announced that they would enter any war on Georgia’s side if Russia came full bore. It would be interesting to see if that really happens. This could be a war that drags other nations in whether they want to or not.
Better hope it’s not the Black Sea, they’d be sitting ducks there.

I went to jihadwatch.org this morning, looking for info on the 68 million acres that the oil companies have leases for. I was trying to find out how many lawsuits were preventing them from drilling anywhere. I did not have any luch in that, but I was amazed at some of the news stories - that I haven’t even seen on FR.
Like another poster said ... we live in interesting times, but hey, I've bought a tire gauge, threw out my copy of the U.S. Constitution, and read my copy of McCain/Feingold daily so I'm not worried.
