Impeccable timing.
Right back at you. FR has been saturated with WMPH crying from the “Let Obama win to teach the GOP a lesson” crowd for too long. And those of us on the STFU side have consistently pointed out that there are more important things at stake.
“The two-week exercise ...” so hopefully our troops are home and not in harm’s way in Vaziani.
I don’t think there are Muslims per se involved in this. It’s a conflict involving two former Georgian regions that broke away (a number of years ago). They are supported by Russia against Georgia, which wants them back. The states are near Turkey, I believe, so they may be Muslim, but I don’t think that’s the essence of this particular conflict.
Yeah but the Russians can sustain heavy casualties as long as they have the will and they do not fear the West will ever intervene in the crisis.
Exactly!
I won’t have a problem with him cutting his Olympic trip short. But he doesn’t need to be here to call Congress back into session first. This 5 week delay to please Ms. Botox is silly, and costly, and if prices start to go back up, waiting for her to finish her book tour is sillier than the President being at the Olympics.
Thanks for the link...from the 1st at post #42...
“The two sides [China and Russia] shall, in the spirit of partnership, strive to promote the multipolarization of the world and the establishment of a new international order.”
Have you seen these quotes?...
“The principal characteristic of twenty-first-century international relations is turning out to be nonpolarity: a world dominated not by one or two or even several states but rather by dozens of actors possessing and exercising various kinds of power. This represents a tectonic shift from the past.”
“Other entities deserving inclusion would be global media outlets (al Jazeera, the BBC, CNN), militias (Hamas, Hezbollah, the Mahdi Army, the Taliban), political parties, religious institutions and movements, terrorist organizations (al Qaeda), drug cartels, and NGOs of a more benign sort (the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Doctors Without Borders, Greenpeace). Today’s world is increasingly one of distributed, rather than concentrated, power.”

Aircraft shot down? That’s a normal risk on a bombing mission.
I wonder if the Georgians have nukes. Anyone know?
Couldn't have said it better myself! Nicely done.
On the Today show this morning it was rumored that Lauer and his side kick were overheard saying...........let the newsgal handle it, we’re busy watching important stuff.
We have some troops on the ground there training the Georgians...
Roo-Roo
I wonder what China will do if these events overshadow their Olympic spectacle. Won’t make them too happy.
I was in South Africa a few years ago and met several Europeans vacationing there as well. I was amazed at the news there compared to ours. There is all kinds of “stuff” going on in the world that we never hear about.
We have the sports and the scandals...
Where was it that we were sending those two carriers?
Georgia announced that Russia has declared war against them.
