Angry man hit by ricochet after firing five bullets into tractor Tuesday, August 5, 2008 2:58 PM

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

A Pickaway County man shot at a tractor mowing a ditch on his property last night and ended up hit by one of his own bullets, authorities said.

Randall Turner of Ashville threatened the driver of the tractor, which was pulling a mower, before firing five bullets into the tractor, Pickaway County Prosecutor Judy Wolford said. One of the bullets ricocheted and hit him, she said.

"So he went to the hospital and then he went to jail," she said. Turner is charged with one count of felonious assault.

Wolford didn't know the nature of Turner's injuries but said he was released and booked into the Pickaway County Jail yesterday. He was released on bond, she said.

The driver of the tractor was uninjured, Wolford said. Neither was another man driving a second mowing tractor across the street. Turner didn't fire at the second tractor, she said.

Pickaway Soil and Water Conservation District contracts with workers to mow the ditch, which is on an easement maintained by the county, Wolford said.

Turner has filed a lawsuit against the county, demanding that a bridge built by a neighbor over the ditch be removed, Wolford said. Turner claimed the bridge caused water to flood his property.

The bridge has been removed, but the suit has not been withdrawn, she said.

This creep belongs in jail.

It's people like him who give gun owners a bad name.

I always wondered why superman stood firm as the bullets were fired but ducked when the crook threw the empty gun at him.

Shootin’ at tractors is less fun when the tractor is armed!

It’s idiots like this that give the gun grabbers plenty of ammo to use against all of us.

Was he shooting a 38 caliber silenced automatic clip fed large magazine capacity revolver assault weapon?

This reminds me of an anecdote, a true story:
This young fellow in W. VA got out of the Army and he had saved his money and bought a new Harley Davidson. He was showing it off to some high school girls and they were impressed, when some other guys showed up and started razzing him about his `bicycle’. One told him that he doubted it would even make it up a hill....
Angry, the kid climbed on the Harley and started up the mountain on a dirt trail. They could all see since it had been mostly logged.
Near the top, however, lived an old mountain man and his wife in an old ramshackle house. No plumbing or electricity. Kerosene lamps, well water. No car, a mule for getting around.
The kid’s HD was making a terrible noise—the engine strained but hawgs have a lot of low-end torque, he was leaned far over the handlebars and was getting it done.
Hearing the noise, she fetched her husband. She was frightened. He peered down the trail, grabbed his shotgun, took aim and shot twice.
Trembling she asked, “What was that thang?!”
And he replied, a little shakey:
“I don’t rightly know, but it shor let go of that young feller it had a-holt of....”

Wasn’t there a man from Illinois who “killed” his lawnmower about a week ago? Is shooting your failed machinery/mowing equipment the wave of the future?

When I was a kid, I figured out that Superman was a fake. Whenever the bad guy would shoot at him, Superman would stand there and the bullets would bounce of his chest, just like in the graphic you posted. But when the bad guy ran out of bullets, he’d throw the gun at Superman, and Superman would duck to avoid the blow!

If you’re going to shoot tractors, aim for the oil filters.
