Bill Clinton regrets some things he said - and didn't say - on the campaign trail. But there's one thing he still can't utter: Barack Obama is ready to be President.
"You can argue that nobody is ready to be President," the former President told ABC News.
"You can argue that even if you've been vice president for eight years, that no one can be fully ready for the pressures of the office," Clinton said Monday during a visit to Rwanda. That's probably not what Team Obama wanted to hear from the former commander in chief, whose role in Obama's election push and at the Democratic National Convention remains in flux.
Team Obama has said Clinton will be an asset, but so far he and the Illinois senator have spoken only once, by phone, since the primaries ended - a fact that has peeved some Obama supporters.
Bubba's backers concede his unwillingness to say his party's nominee is ready to sit in the Oval Office was a faux pas.

Based on this, Bill would say that Hillary is not ready to be President? No? He'd declare that she is absolutely ready on day one?
Then I guess he's dissing Obama.
Flashback 2004
Barack Obama says he will NOT run for President in 2008 election because he lacks experience.

My read is that neither Clinton got their ass kissed.
A lot of people predicted the Clintons would try to sabotage BO and it looks like that might be happening. I am not surprised since they obviously are hurt and bitter after being beaten.
“You can argue that nobody is ready to be President,” the former President told ABC News.
Yep we can argue about that, Bill. But Hillary had 35 years of experience. Hillary passed her commander in chief test, too. So did McCain, per Hillary, but Obama didn’t pass his commander in chief test.
Then, Bill, please tell us, why did Hillary and all the surrogates talk endlessly about who is best qualified and 35 years of making change, and Hillary being ready on Day One and all that, if , in the end, we’re then going to argue that nobody is ready to be president????????
And, just from the Dem. standpoint, isn’t it odd that a prominent Democrat such as Bill Clinton isn’t willing to strongly support his party nominee?
freudian slip. The clintons hate this guy, he cost clinton his 3rd term.
Just put some ice on it, Obama.
Did anyone else think Clinton looked like he was about to lose his false teeth during that interview? You have to watch the whole interview, but at one point he has to curl his upper lip around his teeth to keep them in. It’s hilarious.
Or, if Obama were to win - and have a failed Presidency - they're setting up an, "I told you so" in for Hillary.
I don’t think there is a “convention bomb” but I do think the Clinton’s will do everything they can do for McCain to win, while simultaneously not ticking the Dems off.
All about 2012. The last thing HRC wants is a BHO win. McCain is likely a one termer regardless. A BHO win almost certainly ends her hopes.
I could argue that even after eight years in office this SOS failed all readiness tests.
Bill Clinton craves the spotlight more than a crack addict. He was CERTAIN, ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN, that wife would become POTUS and then would have the best of all worlds. The spotlight, globe flitting, plenty of “playtime” without much responsibilty, etc., ... Then some uppity junior comes along and dashes it all. Slick is fuming. There will be Blood!
"It is going to take nothing less than a complete transformation of our economy. Energy independence will require all hands on deck from America."
How does a New Democrat Third Way "progressive" like one of the original ones, BJ, support a man who just might get a complete transformation of our economy?
BJ thinking, "Hey! That's what we want to do! That sappy-headed hoax Al Gore said to use global warming. Doh! We should of thought of using energy!"
its never over til its over and the dog is dead and buried. PUMA’S have been waiting for their time in Denver and you now have the attack machines ready to launch both from our side and from the Rat side. Can you smell the toast burning?
Why would BJ help Bambi? If Bambi and his supporters lose the Clintonites will own the Rat party wholesale, and Hillary can run in 2012 unopposed.
Hmm-m getting close to convention out comes Bill and won’t say O ready to lead..(plant seeds of doubt)....sort of a subliminal type message? I can only imagine the plotting Bill and Hil have been doing since she “suspended” her run.
Looks as if Operation Chaos is now on auto-pilot. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
If she sits back, plays nice with Bambi publicly but does nothing to help (or damages him privately), Bambi and his supporters are toast after they lose and the Clintonites rule the party. Then Hillary! can make her "I told you so" 2012 run.
So it seems unlikely to me she'd even want the nomination now. The variable is how bad the Rat crackup will be after a Bambi loss. Will blacks and the hard left abandon the party an create some new third party (or go to the Greens)? If the Rats splinter badly, there may not be a competitive Democratic party in 2012.
