America and Republicans are being played for fools by Pelosi (Drilling for oil)
8/3/08 | Poman

Posted on 08/03/2008 12:47:46 PM PDT by Popman

There seems to be this disconnect with understanding just what the democrats are doing or not doing about drilling for oil and in general, a realistic national energy policy

The answer is very simple; The House under the control of Nancy Pelosi was waiting for Obama to change his position on drilling. Do we really think they are that stupid to think we believe we can inflate our tires and tune our cars to fix our energy policy? That was Obama talking off the cuff and since he wasn't on teleprompter he said something stupid which he does quite frequently

Why did Pelosi waiting so long to vote up or down on drilling, because she knows she will lose and the “rat” party can not afford to be in direct opposition to a position Obama has taken, it will make him look weak and not the party leader, cost him and democrat party votes and so we the American pubic watch and wait while Speaker Pelosi sports inanities and to take the heat for the junior Senator from Illinois by not having the American public interest in mind by having a up or down vote on drilling

It’s all in the timing

The democrats are playing the pubbies and us for fools; it is not a coincidence that Obama changed his position on drilling in Florida on the day the Congress recessed.

It's a set up

Obama is the “rat” party ticket for real power, if they can succeed in getting a sixty seat majority in the Senate with a majority in the House, and Obama in the oval office, there will be no stopping them. They just need a big coattail effect on Election Day to achieve that, Obama looking weak and being the lightweight he is, will not achieve that by having the House oppose him as the nominee on his drilling position

Imagine for now, because it will happen, Congress reconvenes in five weeks and Obama had spent the last five weeks pushing his oil/energy plans, nuanced and carefully crafted to appease even the most strident environmental wacko. (Probably it will look just like McCain plan) The very important political hot potato Republicans have been counting to punish the Democrats will disappear.

Pelosi thinks it’s a good plan, Reid thinks they can hammer out a compromise in the Senate, and it goes to vote. Are the pubbies going to fight it? Not on your life.

Obama is the hero; the attuned one with the vision to solve the energy crisis has filled up his empty suit and actually accomplished something meaningful to the American people, at least that will be the MSM talking points.

A very large percent of the American public are deaf, dumb and blind to political realities, all they will hear is how great Obama energy plan is and swing his way.

Why do we let the "rat" political machine play us for fools?

Grandma Polosi should well remember what happened to Tom “The Rat” Dashel when he forgot who he really was working for. Enjoying retirement, Tom? Move over, you weasel...you are going to have company.

That's why McCain's advisors have not heeded the repeated and frenzied calls by every pundit from Rush Limbaugh to Dick Morris to go "all drilling, all the time" in their advertising.

I would think if McCain went "all drilling, all the time" now, he would simply tell the American people "It's nice to see the junior Senator from Illinois has finally agreed with my position" after Obama flips

Seems like a win to me.

Nancy and Obama have stood so steadfast against drilling for so long, that Obama's 180 degree turn, is seen for what it is, pure political pandering, and not pure political thoguht.

Obama and Nancy saying they want drilling would be like them denouncing Roe v. Wade, nobody believes them.

If this is the dem plan, McCain should start predicting that Obama will soon come around to supporting McCain's drilling plan. That should prevent the Dems for getting any credit for it when it happens.

Sounds good except for the fact that the DBM always carries the dems water whether they have to recreate the truth or not.

Just look at what happened Friday we revolted with 50 of our reps willing to stay all afternoon and protest that a drilling bill won't be put up after Piglosi turned the light down.

Who reported it? Only FNC and they had to be spoon fed the info by our people like Starwise and others.

We will always get screwed by the DBM. Our best hope may be a special session, even then Piglosi will always find a Marxist idea for not doing the right thing.

Today it was all GW 's fault if you read the interview tape with Stephy. They never give in or up only retreat.

Nancy Pelosi does not want to become is Tom Daschle, the "retired" Democratic leader

Not going to happen

Pelosi and Daschle are from two very different districts. Pelosi could be propped up as a corpse and half the people in her district would not know or not care.

Daschle on the other hand is from middle America, where liberal politicians are tolerated by not given a free pass. He screwed up and lost by having a conservative run against him.

Pelosi on the other hand would not know if a conservative lives in her district more or less have one run against her.

Then when Republicans vote no on the proposal, Dems and the media will scream to high heavens that the Republicans are in the pockets of big oil blah blah blah....

That is the democrats hope, present a bill just odious enough for the pubbie leadership to say NO

Of course the DBM will think it's the next best thing to sliced bread and carry Obama water

Pelosi will be in congress as long as San Fran is on another planet covered in smug (from all the Prius’). But ghuranteed she won't be speaker or even the minority whip if those 15 Dems who voted with the pubbies on Thursday loose in November. Dems don't like losers, just ask John F’in Kerry!

I would refer you to the recently-posted International Herald Tribune (NYT) "McCain Joins Obama on Off-Shore Drilling" article. In a way, it tends to support your concern that the Democrats may be "luring" the Republicans into an off-shore drilling "trap", which the DNC can then "flip-flop" to their advantage. Or McCain could do what you now suggest, and pronounce this a "win" (if he can keep his "advisors" feet out of their mouths).

If nothing else, Congress could have lifted the moratorium on off shore drilling as a start. Noooooo....They have to have some big “scr** Americans and the oil companies FIRST.

The guy is pretty much right on. The only issue the Repulicans had to limit their losses will be off the table. McCain’s stupidity has no bounds. He should have come out strong for drilling everywhere, including ANWAR, the rest of Alaska, and the western shale. Instead, like a complete idiot, he tries to please the enviroloons by continuing to resist drilling in ANWAR. Obama will soon be to the right of McCain on drilling. Pathetic.

Not really, but the MSM will make it look like Obama is a genius for thinking outside the box

You’re right on this one. The only thing that can salvage this disaster is Bush signing an executive order making Congress come back-now and vote on this issue. He should address the issue on national TV and explain why he is calling Congress back. He shouldn’t tell anyone what he’s going to talk about on the telecast. The longer this goes on, the more likely the Dem’s will twist the issue around the GOP’s neck. McCain is an idiot and not capable of handling this on his own. I hope the GOP will wise up soon.

McCain is an idiot and not capable of handling this on his own.

Of course he can. Geesh, that back stabbing ole' RINO has had plenty of political battles. The question is: is he willing to pay out some political capital to do it.

When the Senate returns McCain can present his own energy plan and force Obama out into the open to defend his plan. McCain can force the Senate to compromise on Obama plan and make it a draw.

I hope the GOP will wise up soon.

Well, that will never happen

Obama flip flopped but, he said “limited” drilling
Of course, any bill introduced would probably tax the oil companies (windfall profits) to death, contain wind, solar and alternative fuels technology (anything but nuclear)
Costs would be passed on to the Americans in the form of taxes and higher gas prices
Then, when there is no relief, the rats will be saying “We told you so”

I don't share your apparent belief that one must be a conservative to run against Nancy Pelosi. She's already taking considerable heat in her district for failing to end the war. If she signs up for offshore drilling, her moonbat constituents will go nuts. Her problem won't be conservatives; it'll be a run from the left.
