Here we go again. Another thread with concerned citizens, who don’t want their door kicked in by jackboots on one side, and the jackboots on the other side trying to convince us it’s for our own good.

Yeah, I agree. This was overkill. Since they never told the local police, it COULD have gotten ugly too.

Did you see the dogs they shot were a couple black labs? Scumbags.

i'm not saying you are wrong. modern police agencies have firmly grabbed onto the element of surprise as paramount to ensuring officer safety.

exposing yourself and allowing for an ambush or the arming of your suspects are things cops want to avoid. so they use these tactics.

i do not think all raids are the same. a crackhouse in a maze of apartments in the projects is one thing. a single house in the suburbs would seem to be another. perhaps they should not be handled in the same way. but they usually are.

i will say that SWAT guys are simply the entry teams and are not responsible for the actual intel that leads to an entry.

Do the 'entry teams' get any information on what they are going in for? Any intel on the evidence and probably cause? I should hope that if they kick in someones door they took the time to find out who's dog they are about to shoot and whose kids they are about to point machineguns at and WHY.

If someone kicked in my door and shot my dogs without enough evidence for ONE SIMPLE ARREST... I might be some what sad. I went back and edited things out of the preceding sentence. I have great respect for police when they are 'protecting and serving'. If they start acting Gestapo they get as much respect as Gestapo.

I have to say that in this instance the cops were wrong. They aren’t ALWAYS wrong though. Stereotyping ANY profession is dangerous.

Pop quiz for all the dog owners here. How many teenages stoned on pot would you trade for your dogs lives?

23 pounds does not even begin to cover it. On the other hand I will trade a fairly small quanitity of cooper and lead for my labs...

Both husband and wife are in politics.

Yeah, a Google search on his name turns up all sorts of political activities. Here's a press release from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners:

Cheye Calvo joins the NAIC with a strong insurance background and extensive public service credentials working with officials at all levels of government. He served as the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) senior federal liaison on financial services and transportation issues and managed the NCSL’s insurance program. Calvo directed state legislative efforts to modernize state insurance regulation, including cooperating with the NAIC to draft, endorse and enact the Interstate Insurance Product Regulation. He has worked closely with Congress and state legislative leaders on critical issues such as medical malpractice, auto insurance and genetics policy.

As NCSL’s federal transportation liaison, Calvo successfully led state efforts for incentive-based approaches to highway safety and innovative financing flexibility in the recent highway bill and for state-friendly federal driver’s license standards.

Prior to NCSL, Calvo served as chief of staff in Maryland to Prince George’s County Councilwoman Audrey Scott (R-Bowie). He also currently is the elected mayor of the Town of Berwyn Heights, Maryland.

Yeah, sounds like a major drug dealer to me. And it looks like he's probably a Republican.

More dogs murdered for our stupid failed war on some drugs.

What's next - puppies, bunnies, hamsters? I think the cats are too fast for them.

"The guy turned in the 32 pounds of pot to the cops before they raided his house and killed his dogs. Try reading the story before you start calling people drug dealers and drug users."

LOL! Try comprehending what was written. The guy picked up the package and brought it "in" to his house. Not "turned it in" to the cops.

Typical sting here. The post office picks up a suspicious package and calls the postal inspectors. They check it out and determine there are illegal drugs inside. They make the necessary arrangements, set up surveillance and deliver the package. When it is received into the house, they jump out from behind the bushes and shoot your dogs. Simple really....

they get all the intel as it pertains to floor plan, how many people might be inside, what they are looking for and where it might be.

but if has gotten to the point of a raid, there is no doubt in anyone's mind that the intel is solid. so the entry team just wants the facts of the raid. they do not care how the intel was received. probable cause is the job of the investigators and all too often, they take the word of drug abusing crackheads who would give up their mother to avoid felony charges.

so they tell the cops what the cops want to hear and there is little follow-up. but this kind of thing is the exception. that is why we read about it in the papers. there are hundreds of raids executed hourly around the country that produce excellent results.

It was in the article. It was two black labs.

Yeah, but they were meth labs.

Thank you. I'm here all week.

His wife is a finance officer for the state

He works part time as the mayor and serves as director of expansion for the SEED Foundation, a well-known national nonprofit group that runs urban public boarding schools.

It sounds like it could be a setup and the cops bought it. The package was addressed to the wife, Trinity Tomsic.

“modern police agencies have firmly grabbed onto the element of surprise as paramount to ensuring officer safety.”

But they do this at the expense of everyone else’s safety. And for what? Marijuana? This just does not make any sense.

Seems like a way to get yourself killed, I mean, breaking down doors and storm trooping in. A simple knock is so much better.

Where was the search warrant? Have you checked out the photo of he and his wife?

“No preferential treatment there, no sir-eee................ “

The package was unopened which will make it difficult to prove he knowingly possessed the marijuana.

My Soldiers and I did much the same thing in Iraq for about a year. We DID get intel on why we were hitting this particular house, and we also exercised proper restraint against the household and their possessions (they don’t have pets). Very often our intel was wrong, too, and we would hit the wrong house.

These actions by these SWAT teams smacks of amateurish nonsense. Pure fear, lack of professionalism, and most likely a sense of “we can do whatever we want, because no one will questions us.”

These guys are pathetic.
