Alaska's Palin Faces Probe Star GOP Governor To Be Investigated For Abuse of Office By JIM CARLTON July 31, 2008
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- When Sarah Palin was elected governor as a Republican outsider in 2006, she didn't just take on an incumbent from her own party. She took on Alaska's Republican establishment.
Ms. Palin vowed to clean up a long-cozy political system that had been sullied by an FBI corruption investigation. She endeared herself to Alaskans by making good on her reform promises and showing homey touches, like driving herself to work.
Now, one of the bright new stars in the Republican Party has suddenly become tarnished. The state legislature this week voted to hire an independent investigator to see whether Ms. Palin abused her office by trying to get her former brother-in-law fired from his job as an Alaska state trooper.

She apparently made enemies with Al Gore.
C'mon, you're saying that the VP sinecure is harder than being the Governor of a state? Ridiculous! Any zombie could do it; you go to funerals a few times a year, and show up in the Senate to cast a tie-breaker vote once in a blue moon. And that's about it. I think the best thing Sarah could do for her family would be to move them into the Naval Observatory for four cushy years.

“RECENT TAX CHANGES HAVE BENEFITED TG WORLD
As the smallest explorers to find oil on the North Slope in recent years, the four companies in the joint venture will be test subjects for some of the recent tax changes enacted by state lawmakers last year.
TG World has benefited greatly from an expansion of the tax credit program designed to promote exploration. Even without oil production to pay taxes on, the company has already earned $3.8 million by reimbursing these credits. The state is processing a second claim for $4.9 million and TG World plans to make a third claim for $8.3 million.
Altogether, James said, these credits helped TG World pay ultimately only 35 cents for every dollar of exploration costs.
“It significantly reduces what we’re paying,” James said of the credits.
TG World and the other companies in the joint venture will see a different side of the tax if they bring a field online in coming years and start paying taxes, but, “Overall, it’s not a bad tax system given the comparison to other jurisdictions,” James said.”

The 25% number was actually proposed during the Murkowski Admn. until someone was bought off. Alaska is still a decent place for oil companies to do business...ask BP how things are going over in Russia.
Alaska has some of the highest in the nation because that’s the only real source of income the state has.
That they are. And they absolutely LOVE Palin. That, if nothing else, should give all the Palin-nut freepers serious second thoughts.
Remember the NYT loved John McCain too. Liberal rags don't love conservatives.
What’s the point? In NC you get 100 chances to screw up with the hwy patrol. That is if you get caught scewing around they transfer you to another county. In NC we have 100 counties.
Your evidence is?
EVERYTHING I have seen about this person gives me genuine hope for America.
Other than hate and slander, what do YOU have to offer?
It looks like Ted is spilling over on her. Someone is singing up there and they are giving names out to keep their butts out of jail.
I had a funny feeling Palin was next after Stevens. Someone doesn’t want her to be a VP choice.
Way too much of a coincidence. Who is doing the biding of the Hussain monsters? Gotta be the environmental interests up there. All they need to do is lock her reputation up until after the nomination and then let everything go away.
Be interesting if this would be spun as blatant leftist attempt to hijack the electoral process with smears.
Hollis French
This is the only quoted name in the ENTIRE ARTICLE. She is being smeared by Dems and they only have to have her out of the picture for a couple of weeks. Would be interesting to see how the money is getting to Alaska to do this.
She may be off the list
Well, that is the point.
She could turn this around by saying it was her duty to protect her woman and a child against an abusive man who happened to be a cop.
You are absolutely right. She could make this to her advantage. I pray she does. Seems like powers bigger than us all are playing games.
her woman = her sister
With the latest thing on Ted Stevens, and Palin being a VP threat, it's predictable. But still, look at the material the GOP has chosen to "lead" the party; The East Coast Rockefeller, blue-blood Liberals who call themselves "Republicans" who could care less. Like Romney, he played the part perfectly to please the Socialists as Governor, then somehow claimed to be the opposite really, when he needed Conservative support. And the Neo-Cons sucked it up like cotton candy, much like they have done with McCain. But the party as a whole has already gone off the cliff with the rest of the Lemmings.
Hey, that character will always be one of the strong women in films and my favorite.....intelligent, tough, brave, good wife, good cop....If Palin is anything like Marge Gunderson, she’d be a superb VP choice.....agreeing with an earlier responder, there’s a lot of substance there.
My first thought too!
I too, have had reservations about Palin being a VP. Not because she's unqualified - because she is eminently qualified. But the pressures and demands of an infant with Downs Syndrome are extreme.
But as you say... If she could be the governor of Alaska, she surely could handle VP duties.
As I think about it.... the hardest part of being a VP is the campaign itself. Once you get past the speeches, the debates, the Convention, and all that.... the rest is easy.
This is nothing but a political hit by sick, amoral Alaskan political weasels (though there are probably other outstate politicos involved).
Her ex-brother-in-law (Wooten) claimed that his ten-year-old boy asked Wooten to use a stun gun on him, and he did.
Both ADN articles on this [by two different sets of writers] have a curious phrase describing this:
"An internal trooper investigation in 2005 found all but two of the allegations to be unsubstantiated -- an illegal moose killing and a tasering of an 11-year-old. Wooten was disciplined."
It looks to me like the ADN staff spent at least half a day in a meeting designing a phrase minimizing what Wooten did, so they could get on with the main task of the Palin hit piece.
The line appears to be crafted to confuse semi-literates [many recent American HS graduates] reading it.
I usually don't go off on allegations like these, but what kind of sick amoral freak would try to "gloss" what Wooten admitted to?
If the kid would have asked Dad to demonstrate his nightstick on him, would the dad have complied with that request also?
Where is the guy's judgment? Do I want this guy pulling me over?
We’ll just have to watch and she how Gov Palin’s style deals with this. The Natural Gas Pipeline permitting process is bigger by orders of magnitude.
