President Bush on Monday approved the execution of an Army private, administration officials said. It was the first time in over a half-century that a president has affirmed a death sentence for a member of the U.S. military.

From the article: “Gray had been convicted in connection with a spree of four murders and eight rapes in the Fayetteville, N.C., area over eight months in the late 1980s while stationed at Fort Bragg.”

And this is a concerning issue for the press?
It appears to be an appropriate course of action.
Sounds like this one needed a bullet between the eyes a long time ago.
Paging SCOTUS, paging SCOTUS, chance to meddle on aisle six......
How Does Politico Justify This Photo Choice?http://newsbusters.org/blogs/mark-finkelstein/2008/07/28/politico-chooses-photo-angry-bush-accompany-execution-story
I’m looking forward to the day when former Sergeant Hasan Akbar gets the exact same.
“four murders, eight rapes”
God knows what else he did.
Scumbag’s been on death row for twenty years.
Justice delayed is justice denied, indeed!
Based on the limited info in the ap report, I’d prefer we call the guy a multiple murderer-rapist who happened to be an Army private. In today’s climate, such headlines are inflammatory (and I know you didn’t create it!)
How hard would it be for the AP to report that Bush has approved the execution of a murdering rapist (not just one time, mind you)? I suppose it is news when the POTUS has to approve such an action, but this is hardly a shocking decision. I’d find it more startling if he commuted the sentence (and I’m not a huge proponent of the death penalty).
By lying to sheep who will believe anything and being praised for their reporting by them.
Looking forward to another happy ending after twenty years of needless delays of justice.
Of course he wants to stop the execution of the Illegal Alien Gang Member in Texas who raped and murdered two teenage girls.
Is the manner of execution still hanging?
I read what he was convicted of and I hope his sentance is carried out quickly. He’s eaten too many free meals at our expense already.
The turkey should have been executed about eighteen years ago.
I want to take this moment to thank President George W. Bush for having the backbone and courage to eradicate this cold hearted killer from every hurting anyone again.
God knows what else he did.
Indeed he does. And whatever is done to him in this life is child's play considering what's waiting for him.
There is nothing cruel or unusual about the punishment to shortly be meted out for his crimes.
