I was at Pascagoula when the USS Shark was undergoing refitting back in 1974. I had to inspect the galley on the sub twice. The best/worst beating I ever took was when a bosun's mate beat me to a pulp in the Navy Club there at Pascagoula. I deserved it after groping a waitress unrespectfully after having too much to drink. Even though I was USAF, the Navy and Marines were a great group with which to serve there and at the NCBC at Gulfport.

The base's property, on Singing River Island in the Mississippi Sound at the mouth of the Singing River, was formally transferred to the Mississippi Secretary of State's office July 9, 2007.LOL! When I was growing up in the 50's and 60's, my Daddy used to go shrimping out there. Back then, it was known as the Mud Lumps. Good shrimping, too!
I have three siblings living in P'goula now! My youngest sister works for one of the companies that take the new boats out on Sea Trials, my just younger sister works for Jackson County in the court system, and my older brother just moved back to the coast after having been away since Katrina, and moved three doors down from my just younger sister! He works for MDOT, but many moons ago, he used to work for NOAA out of the port area.
Pascagoula got slammed by Katrina; there was 6' of water in the downtown area, and every police car was ruined, because they were all called in at the height of the storm and dutifully parked right outside headquarters. Ruh, roh! They didn't even get that much water in Camille in the late 60's, Fred in the late 70's, or Ellen, I think it was, in the early 80's, and those last two drew a bead on Pascagoula. The town looks like it's trying hard to come back, though, which is always good!

A pastor friend told me about a sign he had seen in front of a neighborhood church. Instead of just advertising the congregations own time of worship, the sign also listed the schedule for two other churches that met at different times in the same small town. Interestingly, my friend didnt think this was impractical or foolish. Instead, he imagined what it must do for a church to put such unselfishness at the heart of everything it did!Hah! Tricksy church! Food for thought for folks who might think since they can't go to that church, because of the time of the service, they don't need to go that week. They're being gently reminded that there are other churches which might have service that's available when they are. ;o)

I have never been there. You have to get there, sometime! Hubby and I were born and reared there. His graduate school, then work took us far away, eventually to MA, but we're planning to move back home as soon as we can! We'll be empty nesters come next month, when our youngest goes off to college, to Southern Miss! Then we just have to get our house remodeled and ready to sell!

Evening Kathy, Hugs.
Thanks for the good wished that the phones slow down.
My girls split a cup of coffee with milk on Saturday because I’m a klutz.
I had been out of milk and was so looking forward to a cup ...I was still half asleep and the cup was tapered at the bottom.
I failed to center it on the trivet and just turned it over.
I jumped up for a towel to start mopping the table up..and the girls were busy lapping up the floor. They seemed quite pleased with it.
