Obama has some ambitious ideas for government programs- spend an hour or so browsing through the ISSUES on his website to get an idea of the size and scope of those ideas.
There are many programs and ideas found on Obama's website that will worry conservatives. The media doesn't show much interest in the proposed increases of government size and intervention in the lives of citizens under an Obama administration.
Still, one would think what Obama said on July 2, in a speech in Chicago,would get their attention:
" We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”
Since then there have been countless blog posts on just what he was referring to in that statement. You won't find his above statement in the speech as released by the campaign, as it was edited out. Why has no journalist or reporter directly asked the senator just WHAT he meant?
This is a challenge to any American journalist or reporter to directly ask Obama about the statement and for a clear, unambiguous answer.
Did he simply mean what Volokh refers to here? That it was a sort of catch-all for his various envisioned programs, and not for a newly created national security program of sorts?
Alternately- does he have something altogether different in mind, as suggested by a source for Quinn and Rose radio show,as referenced here?
Did you know, for example, according to a speech given by Obama a year ago at Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars that:
As President, I will create a Shared Security Partnership Program to forge an international intelligence and law enforcement infrastructure to take down terrorist networks from the remote islands of Indonesia, to the sprawling cities of Africa. This program will provide $5 billion over three years for counter-terrorism cooperation with countries around the world, including information sharing, funding for training, operations, border security, anti-corruption programs, technology, and targeting terrorist financing. And this effort will focus on helping our partners succeed without repressive tactics, because brutality breeds terror, it does not defeat it.
I will also launch a program of public diplomacy that is a coordinated effort across my Administration, not a small group of political officials at the State Department explaining a misguided war. We will open “America Houses” in cities across the Islamic world, with Internet, libraries, English lessons, stories of America’s Muslims and the strength they add to our country, and vocational programs. Through a new “America’s Voice Corps” we will recruit, train, and send out into the field talented young Americans who can speak with – and listen to – the people who today hear about us only from our enemies.
Why won't even one journalist ask Senator Obama what a "civilian national security force" would look like?
Is ANYONE going to ask about this?
The MSM is almost totally corrupt.....be it by ideology or actual monetary payoffs there’s not much chance of either candidate being asked ANYTHING that might require an answer they do not want to give.
Most of the media are cheerleading for Barry....2008 will be remembered as the year even the pretense of objectivity fell away.

This is the same dishonest trick Democrats have used for decades: announce something as new when it's something we've been doing for years. Obama either doesn't know we've been sharing intelligence — in which case he's not qualified to serve as an FBI agent, let alone president — or he's a liar. Which is even worse. But you're right: no one in the press will call him on this stuff. They're too busy clapping and cheering every time he sneezes or farts. |
Other than that he is absolutely nothing, an empty suit and perhaps the most inexperienced candidate ever to run for the office of President of the United States. He is a disaster waiting to happen....

Only thing I can figure is that after this idea came up, the campaign went to their reporters (all of them) and told them to deep six this.....

Take a deep breath. It is important “we” get Osama Obama nominated. Have seen his polling internals. They stink. We want to ensure the Dems do not see so many problems with him that they bite bullet and nominate the Hildabeast.
I realize that there is only a 5-15% chance of this happening, but that must be avoided at all costs, as HRC would be much harder to beat.

I am of two minds about that idea. IF Hillary had won the primaries and was the # 1 choice- yes- she would be tough to beat. However- if, for some reason they chose Hillary at the convention I think the Dem party would be in an uproar and split for years to come...making McCain’s election more, rather than less likely.

When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said "Praise the Lord."
And when the young leader said, "I will be for change and I'll bring you change," everyone yelled, "Viva Fidel!"

What drew them instead was the raw power Mr. Obama has amassed: the power to start shaping events and the power to move markets, including TV ratings. (Even “Access Hollywood” mustered a 20 percent audience jump by hosting the Obama family.) Power begets more power, absolutely.

Like everything else The One says, it's all a bunch of FlowerPower™ made of empty words. He's going to open "America Houses" throughout the Islamic world? What's this, in addition to our embassies and consulates? What makes him think any of those countries will accept such a thing, with the Internet and libraries as we understand those terms? Most of those countries censor the Internet; a guy in Afghanistan was recently sentenced to death for possession of a Bible. Our embassies in those countries are regularly attacked and bombed. Will the "America houses" be any different? Not likely.
