Republican presidential candidate John McCain's short list of vice presidential possibilities has been essentially narrowed to six, according to a source familiar with the search.

Factions within the Arizona senator's campaign are pushing for their favored candidate, sources tell the Phoenix Business Journal, a Baltimore Business Journal sister publication.

So, in reality, his list is only 4. Lieberman and Powell are “kites”.

I like Ridge but he may be a kite also...just to make the voters of PA to feel good about Juan.

Palin is good. too but (1) her latest child was born with Downs Syndrome so she will decline; and (2) he isn’t running against Hillary so the feminist card isn’t required.

He’ll need to choose between Pawlenty and Romney. Even tho he’s a “big gummint” Pubbie, all arrows point at Romney.

Sounds as though Powell is being courted by both parties.

At this poit in time. uh...conservatives? would probably accept Jeffrey Dahmer as VP.

I ain’t happy with the top of the ticket. The VP is a moot point.

eenie meenie minie moe, which liberal will I pick as ho.

McCain would be a fool to announce his choice for VP too early. Its the only way the media will pay attention to him...and once they know who the VP is, they’ll forget him.

Very well said, I agree completely. One point on Ridge, he’s already been asked if he would take the pro life pledge identical to the one GHWB took in 1980 at Reagan’s insistence, and, in political speak, he said yes. He emphasized that he would support McCain’s positions because Mac would be the boss. It worked in 1980 and maybe it might work in 2008. That said, Palin is my first choice.

Powell is acceptable to me

Powel is an Arabist, as is Condi Rice. Neither would be acceptable to me. But it doesn't matter to me I vote in California.

Agreed.

Powell has no interest anyway...and will probably vote for Obama.

"This should be done as cold bloodedly as possible - who brings what votes and what money...."

Exactly right.

Powell brings bupkes.

Palin (I like her a lot) brings Alaska which is a Red State anyway ... money? Not sure about that.

Romney places Michigan in play, brings money, experience, youthfulness, and, probably, brings the goods on the economy & business.

Ridge .. does he place PA in play> Money? No idea. Don't know much about him.

Pawlenty ... Wisconsin in play? He's also a global warming convert. Money? No idea.

Who'd I miss?

I’m sure McCain will manage to do something to slam his base, but, it says right here that Mike Sunnucks knows as much about McCain’s short list as I do.

What's with all the Tom Ridge buzz lately? On Brit's Panel, Bill K. and Jeff B. said they thought he would be VP. Dr. K. thought it would be Mitt. Ridge is sooooooooooo dull and would remind people of W's administration, thus continuing the McCain/Bush, McCain/Bush talking point.

My first choice is Mitt. (surprise!) As for Sarah P., I'm sure she'd be a great candidate. However, I can hear the Drive-Bys now doing endless segments on--should a woman with very small children be in such a position of power? What kind of mother would travel the world leaving her kids home with the measles?

By the way, I heard on Fox that Bloomie is endorsing McCain today. Let's hope he doesn't make the short list. ;)

If it’s Mitt, he may announce it soon to coincide with the Olympics...I heard that Mitt will be attending. Good publicity.

Powell would not accept.
Ridge cannot pass BI

Other four are posible. Add John Thune and you have a pretty accurate list.

There’s just as good a chance of Powell being ObamaMessiah’s running mate... if not better.

For those interested in the current Sarah Palin scandal in Alaska, some details can be found here, here, and here. Hard to tell if it has legs.

Powell’s been Cahirman of the Joint Chiefs and Secretary of State. He knows all too well that John Nance Garner said being VP isn’t worth a bucket of warm piss.

I have to say I like Rudy as well — so many people respect him after 9/11, and he would get a lot of NY voters.

He’s tough and colorful and I think would help McCain. Not with the anti-RINO crowd, but there aren’t many choices other than the so-called RINOs so why not Rudy?

And yeah, have him put on a dress!
