Obama's speech today in Berlin, hailed as a "major" address, has at least one major, glaring error that shows that nether Obama nor his handlers and speech writers were thoroughly familiar with the facts. Obama's main theme was about the "walls" that separate all of us one from another. He claims that many of these "walls" have been taken down and hails that as progress. But in at least one instance he is wrong. In fact more walls have been built where Obama claimed they were taken down.
First the relevant section of Obama's misconception (my bold for emphasis):
The walls between old allies on either side of the Atlantic cannot stand. The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes; natives and immigrants; Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand. These now are the walls we must tear down.
We know they have fallen before. After centuries of strife, the people of Europe have formed a Union of promise and prosperity. Here, at the base of a column built to mark victory in war, we meet in the center of a Europe at peace. Not only have walls come down in Berlin, but they have come down in Belfast, where Protestant and Catholic found a way to live together; in the Balkans, where our Atlantic alliance ended wars and brought savage war criminals to justice; and in South Africa, where the struggle of a courageous people defeated apartheid.
(Full Obama speech transcript here.)
Obama claims that the walls built to separate Protestant from Catholic have come down in Belfast. Well, in fact, they have not. In reality MORE ARE BEING BUILT all the time.
As a May 5th USA Today story chronicles, "Ten years after peace was declared in Northern Ireland, one might have expected that Belfast's barriers would be torn down by now. But reality, as usual, is far messier. Not one has been dismantled. Instead they've grown in both size and number."

The obama camp response would likely be that he was just referring to the reduction in violence over the past decade.
“He makes such a flub and no media calls him on it?”
Not on the agenda.
The media is completely in the tank for Obama, unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed.
Americans, in general, are stupid and lazy, and accept what the MSM shovels.
Get ready for President Obama.
Here is the important part of his speech. This was a "redistribute the wealth" speech. He is a communist a**hat and must be stopped.

I wouldn’t get too excited about this.
He’s referring to metaphorical walls. And certainly the political walls in Northern Ireland have indeed fallen.
That said, I do not want a smooth talking Marxist as President.
He gives a great presentation if you don’t pay any attention to what it is that he says.
Anyone calling him on it is a racist. Now keep quiet. /sarc
Obama’s speech was sophomoric and absurd. Break down the walls against immigrants - we have no walls against immigrants. Break down the walls between Christians and Muslims - we were getting along fine with Muslims until some fanatics claiming to be Muslims killed thousands of our people.
This man is just an idiot spouting nonsense.
His fakery and hornswaggling are evident to anyone who is willing to barely scratch the surface of the media blitz, idol-creation campagin he is running. Time and again he diplays what a farce he is on the positions he takes, the supposed care he shows, and the knowledge of almost all the issues he doesn't have.
This latest ",i>tour of unfit duty" is another esxample.
This is a “Major Gaffe”???
You cannot question the Obamamessiah.....REPORT FOR RE-ECUCATION CLASSES NOW!!!
The media loves Obama. He's their ideal; a freedom hating, government loving black Democrat from the profoundly corrupt Chicago Democratic political machine with an ego the size of Alaska, and an intellectual capacity the size of Sheila Jackson Lee. His only talent is the ability to read from a teleprompter. The media fawningly licks up every bit of crap that this empty suit excretes before it even has a chance to hit the ground. Don't expect any critical comments from the media, because they literally worship the guy.
The noteworthy thing about Obama’s speech was that it enunciated the leftist agenda.
I think our only chance is the fact that Obama is SO arrogant and filled with hate for his own country and system of government that he’ll make little (or no) effort to even disguise this, feeling (like most liberals do) that to hate America and our society is the only right and proper thing to do.
Step 1 is to travel to Europe, pretend that he’s the President, make insanely stupid comments about being a “citizen of the world” and point out, just in case no one has noticed, that he’s black (just as that OTHER loser, John Kerry, felt the need to keep reminding people that he did, indeed, serve in Vietnam).
The image of the collective mainstream media, kneepads and kleenex in hand, tagging along after Obama and breathlessly reporting his every move while there’s a 99% media blackout (no pun intended) on that OTHER candidate - you know, the old, evil one that’s pre-ordained to lose...
I think there might just be a backlash.
I hope so, because as much as I loathe McCain, the Obamanation would be a disaster for our country.
