The Price to Pay for Obama Stadium Tickets
nyt ^ | July 24, 2008 | Michael Falcone

Updated Want to score one of the tickets to Senator Barack Obama’s speech next month accepting the Democratic nomination in Denver? You won’t have to pay, but you may have to work for it, according to the Obama campaign.

In an interview with The Denver Post, the deputy campaign manager Steve Hildebrand indicated that the price of admission to the speech would be a pledge to volunteer and recruit new voters on behalf of Mr. Obama.

“We’re going to ask those 80,000 people in that stadium to march out of there and go with very specific instructions and goals to register millions of new voters,” Mr. Hildebrand told the newspaper.

And by stadium, Mr. Hildebrand is, of course, referring to the campaign’s choice of venue for the acceptance speech – Invesco Field at Mile High, home of the Denver Broncos football team.

Earlier this month the Obama team announced that they had decided to hold the speech at the stadium because it would accommodate a much larger crowd than the Pepsi Center, where the Democratic National Convention will take place.

Nearly 60,000 members of the public could receive the “community credentials” that carry the price of activism between the convention and the November election, The Post reported.

And at last week’s Netroots Nation conference, the gathering of bloggers from across the country, Mr. Hildebrand announced that the campaign would kick off a sizable nationwide voter registration drive just after the Democratic convention.

In an interview with The Times, Mr. Hildebrand spoke more about the public credentialing plan: “If people are going to utilize a credential to see Barack’s acceptance speech in person, we will provide strong encouragement that they give us their time and their muscle between now and the election.”

Correction: Obama decided to hold the acceptance speech at the huge, outdoor venue so that there won't be an audible chorus of Obama deniers.

If they had it indoors, half the delegates would be screaming for Hillary or McCain.

I can just see it now. Obama is preparing to go on stage at the stadium to give his acceptance speech, and at the Convention center the super delegates lead all the other delegates and vote Hillary into the nominee position. What a sight that would be!

An altar call for Obama. I bet Obama shows up with a choir dressed in robes and carrying Das Kapital.

"Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" Neil Diamond
I can just imagine it being played at the democrat convention in August.

Hot August night
And the leaves hanging down
And the grass on the ground smellin' sweet
Move up the road to the outside of town
And the sound of that good gospel beat
Sits a ragged tent
Where there ain't no trees
And that gospel group tellin' you and me
It's Love, Brother Love, say
Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show
Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies
And ev'ryone goes, 'cause everyone knows
Brother Love's show

Room gets suddenly still
And when you'd almost bet
You could hear yourself sweat, he walks in
Eyes black as coal
And when he lifts his face
Ev'ry ear in the place is on him
Starting soft and slow
Like a small earthquake
And when he lets go,
Half the valley shakes

It's Love, Brother Love, say
Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show
Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies
And ev'ryone goes, 'cause everyone knows
Brother Love's show

[Sermon]

Take my hand in yours,
Walk with me this day
In my heart I know, I will never stray
Halle, halle, halle, halle
Halle, halle, halle, halle
It's Love, Brother Love, say
Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show
Pack up the babies
And grab the old ladies and ev'ryone goes
I say, Love, Brother Love, say
Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show
Pack up the babies
And grab the old ladies and ev'ryone goes...

Most college kids will just take the convention ticket and then blowoff/shirk on the required “work payment”.

That would be the most incredible thing if there was a monster thunder and lightning storm during Barry's big moment.

You can be sure Obama’s “Civilian National Security Force” will be looking for slackers.

I’m going to start praying for hail and a touch of brimstone, just to make it more exciting for the TV audience... :)

How about a "freak" August blizzard, complete with a white out

Then even the weather can be called racist.

Hey it's possible. I was once in a 2-3” snow storm late August in Colorado Springs.
