BERLIN (AFP) - Barack Obama Thursday told a staggering crowd of 200,000 people in Berlin that Americans and Europeans must tear down walls between estranged allies, races and faiths, in a soaring challenge to a new political generation.
... humanity must build "a world that stands as one," before the biggest crowd of his campaign.
"The greatest danger of all is to allow new walls to divide us from one another," said Obama, who has scorched through US politics at lightning speed to challenge Republican John McCain for the White House in November's election.
--snip--
The crowd was put at more than 200,000 people by Michael Bengsch, media relations officer of Berlin Police.
The Illinois senator's previous record crowd figure was 75,000, ...
The Illinois senator rebuked both his country and Europe for blaming one another for strains in their relations, but took pains to insulate himself from critics back home who doubt his patriotism.
"I also know how much I love America. I know that for more than two centuries, we have strived, at great cost and great sacrifice, to form a more perfect union; to seek, with other nations, a more hopeful world."
"In Europe, the view that America is part of what has gone wrong in our world, rather than a force to help make it right, has become all too common," the 46-year-old first term senator said.
"In America, there are voices that deride and deny the importance of Europe's role in our security and our future. Both views miss the truth."
Obama, who trails McCain when voters are asked who would be the most credible commander in chief, used Berlin's triumph over division and totalitarianism as a metaphor for the world he hoped to forge.

Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell, no!

80,000 Germans came to a free rock concert given by legitimate A-list European rock-stars.
Oh yes, Obama was there too, and bored the pants off them.
We should give the Germans a break - the real story here is that they didn't idolize him.

The way our presidential elections have flip-flopped between the two parties in the past decades, odds are that Obama will be the next President. I'm going to start selling off some of my stocks before the Democratic Party raises the capital gains tax. I might as well spend my little extra income before they get their hands on it. All we can hope for is that the next government won't hurt the American people too much once they get in power.

The worlds first King!.....
Note to Obama...those 200,000 Germans don’t vote!

Up to one million people were expected to attend the open-air keynote address by Obama, who has almost super-star status in the country. The Guardian says 100000 were there and they were predicting a million.

In a speech that risked being seen as presumptuous, considering Obama will not even face US voters for another three months, he warned of a world where partnership was not a choice but the only means of survival. Sounds like a threat to me. "Join me or DIE." I don't think he's talking to Germans in this instance.
I've been looking for a good thread to donate on.

“staggering crowd...”
Maybe there was a beer-fest or something.
Why do some of our politicians find it necessary to campaign overseas?

I’ve heard that the crowd also grew hungry, so Obama fed them with only a couple fishes and a few loaves.

Why do some of our politicians find it necessary to campaign overseas? "Some"? As far as I can recall, Barry is the ONLY one who has ever done this!

but alas lets remember what they did with the last man to do that....
To: Charles Henrickson
Somebody tell me again: WHY is a U.S. Presidential candidate giving a CAMPAIGN SPEECH in a FOREIGN COUNTRY? Has this ever happened before? Why are so many of the media traveling with him and covering this AS THOUGH HE WERE ALREADY PRESIDENT? Has THAT ever happened before?
The appeal of an Anti-Christ, if not THE Anti-Christ.
To: NormsRevenge
Well, we just gotta vote for him. I mean, if Germans are having mass rallies for him he must be a great leader, how do you say that in German - Fuhrer right?

"Rocks" is right. There was a reggae singer and a rock band that opened for him.
