How can you hit a guy and he rolls off your windshield, and not know you hit him, unless you have been drinking or are on drugs?

You can be talking on your cell phone about McCain's VP pick.

I work out of DC and I won't drive there. I take the train when I need be physically present.

Wondering if the front windshield was caed in? That would b e kinda hard not to notice. As a C owner, you are down on the ground looking up kinda, it would be impossible NOT to see you had hit somebody!

“The witne3ss says that the pedestrian was in the crosswalk crossing on a green light. He also says that guy was splayed across the windshield and rolled off and Novack just kept driving. If this is the case I hope he does time.”

Yes...you’re right.
I wasn’t clear with my comment - I was giving our impression of our visit to the city but not addressing the specifics of this particular accident.

It probably seemed worse to us as we were trying to read road signs and figure out our way while dodging pedestrians at the same time.

But Novak should be accustomed to DC.

Sorry to disappoint you. The man was a pedestrian crossing in the crosswalk with the green light in his favor.

The man splayed onto Novak’s windshield. Novak drove away. When finally stopped he simply said he hadn’t seen the pedestrian.

Look at the video. Novak appears to be lying about not seeing the pedestrian. What say you?

If the marks on the hood of his car are any indication he's lying. I'm sorry but I find it very hard to believe taht you can hit a guy hard enough to dent your hood, scrape the paint off and have the guy fly up hit your windshield and not notice it.

Washington DC ‘IS’ a target rich environment.

DC is. The Alexandria area and Route 1 South of the beltway is thick with jaywalkers. It's like driving in a 3rd world country...probably because the jaywalkers came from 3rd world countries.

How many people have to die before we get the corvettes off the streets!

Did you notice that he got out of the FRONT seat of the police car? Since when do the DC cops transport “law-breakers” in the front of their cruiser?!

do you know that they are building a pedestrian walkway over route 50 at Seven Corners precisely for that reason? guess they were tried of scraping the third world off the hwy as they crossed from the housing development over to the shopping center....

Look at the video. Novak appears to be lying about not seeing the pedestrian. What say you?

I’ve looked at it twice and it’s not the greatest video. But if he hit a pedestrian and they went into the windshield I think even this crappy video would show some damage to the car. After all it is the extremely fragile fiberglass Corvette. I have heard stories about pedestrians looking for slow moving sports cars to jump in front of also. Let’s wait and see how soon the pedestrian files suit.

How can you take at full value, without corroboration, an eyewitness account, especially as reprinted in the Washington Post?

I didn't. I've seen over and under walkways ignored by these folks.

If this witness is correct Novack should be in jail and should be there for a long time.

Wow, it only took 27 post before someone apparently actually read the story.

"The guy is sort of splayed onto the windshield.” ...who was crossing the street on a "Walk" signal and was in the crosswalk, rolled off the windshield and then Novak made a right into the service lane of K Street. “The car is speeding away. What’s going through my mind is, you just can’t hit a pedestrian and drive away,” Bono said.

He chased Novak half a block down K St., finally caught up with him and then put his bike in front of the car to block him and called 911. Traffic immediately backed up, horns blared, and commuters finally went into reverse to allow Novak to pull over.

Bono said that throughout, Novak "keeps trying to get away. He keeps trying to go.” He said he vaguely recognized the longtime political reporter and columnist as a Washington celebrity but could not precisely place him.

Finally, Novak put his head out the window of his car and motioned him over. Bono said he told him that you can't hit a pedestrian and just drive away. He said Novak responded: “I didn’t see him there.”

*******p>So now the question is - why did the police let him go? "Novak was later released by police and drove away from the scene."

Wanna bet the odds of you or I just driving away from the police station after a hit and run?

Aw, I have a soft spot in my head for Novak. Whether or not you agree with every word he's ever written over the decades, he's paid his a goodly amount of dues to the conservative side.

However, at his age, he should hire a designated driver to tool him around the mean streets of DC. He certainly should have the money by now to do so.
