Barack Obama delivered a speech in West Lafeyette, IN on Wednesday and once again mangled some well known historical facts:
Throughout our history, America's confronted constantly evolving danger, from the oppression of an empire, to the lawlessness of the frontier, from the bomb that fell on Pearl Harbor, to the threat of nuclear annihilation. Americans have adapted to the threats posed by an ever-changing world.
Aaah yes "the bomb that fell on Pearl Harbor." Who can forget that? It was the big one, the one that took out all those boats. I guess Obama's political correctness prevents him from noting someone actually dropped "the bomb" and it didn't just fall.
This is a surprising error for a Hawaii native (via the great Kansas heartland) to make. Perhaps Obama was merely confused, as he and his surrogates so often accuse John McCain of being.
> This is a surprising error for a Hawaii native (via the great Kansas heartland) to make.
Maybe he isn’t a Hawaii native?
“Maybe he isnt a Hawaii native?”
Lol!!!!!
Sheesh.
The neocons have brought their liberalism in and tried to pretend to be conservative, but things like the dishonesty give them away. Sorry, Weekly Stanadard, but true conservatism doesn't have to play such games, because we know the truth supports our position.
Obama will speak at the Victory Column in Germany. This tower was built by Hitler to commemorate the German victory in WW2. I have been there and it is impressive piece of work. It also is very ironic that it was used to commemorate a victory that never happened and the same might happen for Obama.
When Germany dropped that bomb, Hawaii had not yet become the 57th state.
lol!
(no more calls, please-we have a winner!)
I’m filing this one with Obama’s claim that his uncle liberated Auschwitz, and the statement that some of the people Memorial Day honors are in his audiences.
Sounds like the makings of a very busy "ping list".
Cheers mah "Hillybilly Brutha"... ; )
I believe that tower was built in the 19th century to commemorate the unification of Germany. Prior to that it was a collection of small states.
It would be very 'pingy', wouldn't it?
No.
When President Bush said that it is crystal clear that the one is meant to represent an entire class. (Is there a name for this sort of literary device?)
“The bomb that fell on Pearl Harbor” just doesn’t work. Either he meant to say “The Bombs” and merely had a slip of the tongue or he is truly as historically tone-deaf as his manifold other statements have shown him to be. I seriously and honestly cannot tell which it is. If this were an isolated event I would give him the benefit of the doubt. But he has repeatedly shown an appalling level of historical ignorance and tone deafness.
You are correct. I looked it up and my tour guide was incorrect. They claimed the the wreath contained a swastika that was knocked out after the war. I will have to correct 25 years of false information stuck in my brain. I wonder what else they told us is incorrect.
Maybe he went into rap mode. You know...
Da bomb dat fell...
You are right, the moron truly thought there was just one bomb dropped on Pearl Harbor. How did he ever get through Harvard?
I'm reminded of Gerald Foed in the debate insisting that Eastern Europe had never been under Soviet domination.
The Victory Column (Siegessäule) was designed to commemorate the Prussian victory in the Prusso-Danish War of 1864 and was inaugurated at a site opposite the Reichstag in 1873 after Prussia had also defeated Austria in 1866 and France in 1871.
Hitler moved the column to its present site in 1939 as part of the monumental redesign of a future Berlin and the height of the column was increased by 7.5 meters at the time by adding a fourth section to the column but the monument was not a Nazi-era monument.
Victory Column, 1905
Victory Column, Today
Obama isn’t confused, he is just a bold faced liar about this in particular and most of his other “facts”.
In fairness, cudda been a slip of the tongue. My money favors historical ignorance bred from indifference, however.
He ignored all the torpedoes; I wonder why?
We've actually been going to the Smokies quite a bit recently, but I have loads of family in Arkansas. Mostly in Little Rock and Hot Springs. A direct relative of mine served as one of the first state geologists.
