McCain Adviser, Phil Gramm, Leaves Campaign NEW YORK (CBS) ― Phil Gramm, a top adviser to presidential candidate John McCain, is resigning from the role as campaign co-chairman after his comments that the United States had become a "nation of whiners" who constantly complain about the state of the economy.
The former U.S. senator from Texas and past presidential candidate made the remarks earlier this month. McCain immediately distanced himself from the comments, but they have been criticized constantly as McCain tries to show he can help steer the country past its current financial troubles.
Gramm had also suggested that the country was facing a "mental recession" instead of real economic problems. Gramm said in a statement late Friday that he is stepping down as a co-chair of the campaign to "end this distraction."

The last time I checked, Gramm had a 90+ lifetime rating from the ACU for his service in the Senate. The reason I mention it is because you shouldn’t fire on your own troops, when you have larger targets.

Ann Arbor is a taxpayer funded economy and I suspect many of the people working in Washtenaw county are from neighboring counties. I came to eastern Jackson county to work in Manchester 10 or 12 years ago.
Meanwhile in the other direction the unemployment rate is lower in Albion but they appear to make a lot less than we do in Jackson county. There are advantages to living in Calhoun county though. My girlfriend is buying a house for about 30 grand less than she would pay if it were next door to me.
Actually, to many, it appears that free countries are getting away with turning to socialism, as the sheeple let them...while in authoritarian countries, the leaders can't afford to ignore economic realities--they must adopt free-market policies to gain the economic growth that allows them to keep the populace pacified.
I think that it also points out that we can't pretend that we have some birthright to prosperity as Americans or Europeans or whatever. Countries that were once far behind us are now owed a great deal, and we find that our influence is waning as these places can pull economic strings and influence global politics with money we owe them.
I find it extremely sad that a man who was right on the money (no pun intended) in his predictions (Ron Paul) was ridiculed--and still is--while Americans (many of whom realize that tax-and-spend wasn't a great idea) have had no problem with President Bush's borrow-and-devalue-and-spend approach.
Wow. Phil Gramm can't win. Seems that folks are blasting him for being too conservative, and now you're blasting him for being liberal (that's a first I've heard about Phil Gramm!)
[However, his immigration views, I think, are in favor of cheap labor to boost profits of American companies, but I think that has swung to become considered a liberal view.]

ROTFLOL! What a ridiculous answer Sen. McCain gave! He doesn't have a clue...he doesn't answer the question, and in fact, it seems that he doesn't know the Sec. of Treasury's role in the Group!

Did you notice that McCain has kicked Gramm close to the curb, but not into the storm drain yet?
I wouldn’t blame a single soul for not speaking out for him.
Perhaps his advisors would fare better if they praised Obama, like McCain does. LOL!
I’ll bet that he was told to hand in his resignation. Besides, who wants to work for someone who will throw you under the bus at the first hint of controversy without trying to analyze what you said and see if you can turn it to your advantage?
