Standards arent about generating revenue.
Motorcycle officers in Colorado Springs should each be writing a minimum of 11 tickets a day, and their counterparts in patrol cars should issue at least one...
But these aren't quotas, Police Chief Richard Myers said.
During an impromptu media briefing Friday, Myers described them as guidelines that help supervisors keep track of their officers' job performance ...
Ticket quotas - feared and despised by drivers everywhere - demand that officers meet goals or face mandatory discipline, Myers told reporters. That's not the case here, he said.
"Police officers are paid for by taxpayers, and they want to know that they're getting a return on their investment,"

What a complete idiot or worse.
Tax man with a gun
When asked if the police department had ticket quota’s to fulfil, the cop replied “ No sir, we do not have quota’s. We are free to write as many as we like.”........
Police Chief..........appointed nuthugger !
County Sheriff.......elected nut !
As a former Deputy Sheriff that is my opinion based on observations !....:o)
where i work they are called “performance objectives” by the bosses. looks like that line of thinking is catching on across the country!
Bravo Sierra.
If gas prices go up and drivers lower their speed and get fewer speeding tickets, will this police chief issue a “guideline” for broken taillight tickets even if his cops have to use their nightsticks to get them?
As it turned out, a whole lot of tickets were issued to soldiers who were new on the installation and generally unfamiliar with the post speed limits and traffic regulations. Giving a soldier or a dependent a ticket before they've left in-processing is a sure way to build an adverserial environment for the entirety of that soldier's tour.
I have to say that I've been pulled over twice in the last year, once in Waxahachie, TX for speeding, and once in Broussard, LA for a burnt out brake light. Both times I got off with a warning when both officers technically had me dead to rights. Thankfully, those communities still allowed their officers the latitude to point out a deficiency, both of which I corrected with every bit as much immediacy as if I'd been issued a ticket.
If it's not a quota, then how can it be used to evaluate performance? After all, how can your job performance be lower for not making a non-existent quota? Defining a quota as having a mandatory disciplinary aspect is clearly weighting the definition away from everyday use and towards his own agenda.
A buddy of mine took a law enforcement class when he was in high school. When the Deputy/teacher explained that the L.A. County Sheriff's Office was like a family with Sheriff Peter Pitchess as the father, he asked, "Does that mean that you're all sons of Pitchess?" The deputy was not amused.
If you can read this article and not come out of it angry then you are not alive. We have double speak. We have lying. We have performance based evaluations that have nothing to do with people obeying the law or not. We have no attempt here to foster community trust. City governments encourage this type of management because they demand a return on investment. BS.. Many Many here on FR defend this policy... Incompatible with self reliance, an important conservative principal.
Reminds me of our "Affirmitive Action" goals when I was in management for a large company. They insisted these goals were not quotas but yet these "goals" were used as major factor in our rating reviews that had a major impact on salary increases.
Righty-o.
And when cops are demoted or sacked because of a lack of tickets it will be ‘voluntary’ discipline.
Whenever someone says it’s not about the money...it’s about the money.
Entering the era of police State.
Or for "Safety Chains Not Crossed" on your trailer.
Here’s a suggestion to all you NASCAR wanna-bes, slow the F down.
Even in the middle of the night they can be found hanging out there eager and ready.
They have a reputation of pulling people over leaving the hospital I work at after 11pm on a frequently as we return home almost to the point of harassment.
Most of the people that work at my hospital state "they only pull people over because they are bored and have nothing to do."
If that is true then maybe they should just set up a road block so they can talk to people. I would rather that then see blue lights come on behind me making me feel like I am a criminal on a regular basis.
It's sad to report this because I am Pro cop.
