A ghostly figure, supposedly the spirit of a dead soldier from a key battle in the English Civil War, has been captured on film by a group of paranormal enthusiasts.

The Northampton Paranormal Group caught the figure on camera during a visit to the site of the Battle of Naseby, a field between the villages of Clipston and Naseby in Northamptonshire, last month.

The visit coincided with the 363rd Anniversary of the Battle of Naseby. Members said they heard clunking noises as well as sounds like cannonball fire.

When the group then looked through pictures they took during the visit, they spotted what appeared to be mysterious figure walking out of the dark carrying something in its hands.

The Battle of Naseby in 1645 was a key win for the Parliamentarians over the Royalists in the English Civil War.

The battle involved more than 21,000 troops when the Royal army, under Prince Rupert, was beaten by Parliamentary troops led by Sir Thomas Fairfax.

Adrian Perkin, an author and 'ghost detective’, said he thought the image was a soldier with a musket or pike walking through a gateway.

He said: “If this is genuine it’s a very, very, good example. It’s the best I have seen for many years.”

Sceptics said the effect was caused by the camera itself.

Anne Haddon, of The Naseby Battlefield Project, said: “I haven’t heard anything like this at the battlefield in all my association with it. It’s fair to say I’m a bit sceptical.”

I’m open to ghosts but this does look very lame.

Took a tour of a cave recently. Guide did the usual “lights out” section to show what total darkness looks like. He also told of many of the guides spending as long as they could sitting in total darkness to see what happens. The stories of the things that their minds started making up were very entertaining.

Looking at the pic as it’s posted here, the ‘human figure’ looks, for the most part, like a pattern in the foliage. The sharply triangular area between the figure’s legs looks more like the gable end of a building and I think I can even make out a window or two. The roofline continues off to the left of the picture.

Why don’t they ever get crystal-pics of these ‘things?’ It might as well be a picture of the Madonna on a piece of toast.

You can even see bunny rabbits, wolves, vampires etc. if you are scared enough and stare at something long enough.

Yup, the key to seeing things in the dark is to look out of the corner of the eyes. There are more of the light gathering cells on the outer part of the retina (fewer color cells). Do not stare, the brain will fill in "missing" information.

I went to Gettysburg and Antietam last fall but didn’t encounter anything paranormal. Some people are just lucky I guess.

The thing on the left looks like a cut and paste from a Disney Movie. If they hung around for a few more shots I'm sure Thumper would have run into the scene.
