Do I fear for my country's future after the display by Rene Marie of all the values of the post 1960s Left in Denver last week with her substitution of a black separatist anthem for our national anthem and the fact not one Denver City official stopped her and demanded she sing the National Anthem? Yes, I do. Everything the Left has done to our country came home to roost in that one event: ethical relativism, multiculturalism, the supremacy of feelings, artist snobbery and group victimization - the entire Left moral/cultural gestalt. And no one thought what she did was wrong. There is no more more right and wrong, shared national identity, putting country ahead of self, demanding every one be an American first and showing reverence towards America. Today, all that's passe. And the Left can't denounce what Marie did since her values are their values. America deserved better last week.

She was there to sing the national anthem. It is insulting for her to do anything other than.

“...not one Denver City official stopped her and demanded she sing the National Anthem....”

Talentless, cowardly, unaccomplished, self-hating white liberals absolutely intimidated by the typical in-your-face black thuggery, and the prospect of being labeled either judgmental, anti-diversity or racist.

“Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing,”

Why can't they lift their own voices?

My attitude on minorities is this - They need to GET ON THE BUS!

It used to be that blacks had to sit at the back of the bus. But now that they can sit where they please its like they refuse to even get on the bus (figuratively speaking).

Blacks are mistaken if they think I owe them something. What they need to do is apply themselves and GET ON THE BUS!

"I can see how it may be perceived that way. But I looked at it a different way: I am an artist. I cannot apologize for that. It goes with the risky territory of being an artist." Marie also told the press, "I don't think it is necessary for artists to ask permission to express themselves artistically."

There is a place for artistic expression where it is welcome. When you are asked as an artist to perform a specific song your artistic license doesn't give you the right to perform a completely different song. Since she took the "risk" of being an artist outside of what was agreed upon, she shouldn't be surprised that she is condemned by those that feel her "performance" was unacceptable.

What's next? The Hispanic national anthem? The Muslim national anthem? God only knows where our one indivisible nation is headed.

Thank you Mr. Prager and goldstategop.....

If this article and especially the “Final Note” at the bottom does not scare you...or at least bother you Americans then we are in more trouble than you think.

Being an “Artist” does not mean you can trash the meaning of singing our National Anthem. I think it is time to "Lose the Hyphens" and start acting like Americans.

I don’t disagree with Praeger’s conclusions, but I believe he needs to study up on history.

Moral relativism didn’t begin with the 1960s. I think it was Earnest Hemingway who said during the 1920s something like, “It’s good if you feel good afterwards.”

And the view of the artist as an outsider who was required to be more true to his art than social norms began during the 19th century - remember Lord Byron.

These ideas are not new, and I think probably cycle through history as the pendulum swings back and forth.

Why?

She was daring anyone to disagree so that she could fit them into the “racist” obama box.

Americans will cower in the face of these insulting acts. They have been taught to fear the label of “racism.” And, the definition of racism get more narrow each and every day. I read this a.m. that children who say “Yuck” to foreign food are being called “racists.” As Dr. Phil says, “This is a situation which begs for a hero.” The problem is that heroes cannot get through the thick wall of the leftist news media.

Rene Marie proved she is not a person of character. She is a scoundrel. While she may get high-fives from left-wing fringe groups, even they now know she cannot be trusted: She's useful; but not someone to trust.

In analogy, she was employed to work the store's cash register. She took some cash in the name of artistic freedom.

From article: Thus, Marie justified what she did in terms of feelings: "I want to express how I feel about living in the United States as a black woman, as a black person," she said. Her feelings were what mattered, and they were more important than elementary decency. She broke a trust in order to "feel good" about herself.

Rev Wright is probably quite proud of her "Christian" values.
