To the partisan simpletons in the MSM, all Conservatives are a mixture of evil, stupid, and polarizing.

However, they are ever pleased to ignore the fact that the left actually are 95% naive, stupid, and polarizing.

You could count on Jesse Helms NEVER to back down from what he thought was right. He never “went along to get along.” Wish we had 100 of ‘em in the Senate now.

Well - as a “general rule” you may be right. However, for Senator Helms, the voices of those who opposed him because he opposed their socialist/communist ideals - among his fellow North Carolinians - not to mention the communist toadies the world over - were very loud and influential - the point that I would wager that most young Americans have NO IDEA of this man’s tremendous contribution to bringing freedom to this world’s citizens!

Senator Helms was a great Senator. He really advocated for the true best interests of the country and its people, and stood against leftism at every turn.

There aren’t many like him left in Washington, if there are any left...

Jesse was the best. I voted for him in the first election that I eligible, 1978. He never got caught up in the Washington social circuit and could care less what liberals thought He was totally independent because he never doubted his convictions.

He was also instrumental in Reagan’s 1976 presidential run. Reagan had lost every primary to date and pressure to drop out was mounting. Jesse opposed his own governor who supported Ford in heading up Reagan’s efforts in North Carolina. Reagan won North Carolina and went on to nearly win the nomination which set up the winning effort in 1980.

My wife and I also had the pleasure of meeting him once in 2003 at a fund raiser in Raleigh attended by the First Lady Laura Bush and his replacement Senator Elizabeth Dole.

He was quite the gentleman in every respect.RIP.

Jesse Helms, the firebrand U.S. senator whose outspoken, conservative views polarized North Carolina and U.S. voters for decades...

Translation: Jessie Helms, the principled and courageous U.S. senator whose strong conservative views enraged many godless, anti-American voters for decades...

Fixed it.

Jesse Helms set the example of what a Republican in Washington should be. He held to higher high standards and lived up to them. One of America's finest elected to office in many generations.

Actually - they cannot be happy even about the death of Senator Helms - no matter what they spout. HE BEAT THEM!

It's strange. When liberals are happy at some perceived "victory" over conservatives, they always come across as angry and bitter. They never seem truly joyful and content. Just my observation.

Agree with your observation.

Thanks for all the comments - off to do the July 4th dinner preparations.

Back later!

So glad God saw fit to bring Jesse Helms to heaven on July 4th!

God is good and has a great sense of humor!

Take THAT you haters of God and haters of goodness and haters of freedom!

Here’s a few of those firebrand comments from Senator Helms (RIP):

“The destruction of this country can be pinpointed in terms of its beginnings to the time that our political leadership turned to socialism. They didn’t call it socialism, of course. It was given deceptive names and adorned with fancy slogans. We heard about New Deals, and Fair Deals and New Frontiers and the Great Society.”

“Compromise, hell! That’s what has happened to us all down the line — and that’s the very cause of our woes. If freedom is right and tyranny is wrong, why should those who believe in freedom treat it as if it were a roll of bologna to be bartered a slice at a time?”

”Conservatism is a hard choice for a society that has become accustomed to big government and big entitlements promoted by liberals….I became a Republican when a very wise young lady asked me how I could remain a Democrat when I didn’t agree with what they stood for and did agree with what the Republicans supported.”

Really it was the Silent Majority of North Carolina that kept sending Senator Helms back to the Senate. The lunatic left was the LOUD minority that tried to keep him from going back.

Jesse Helms was a great man and a great conservative. He protected American citizens’ rights and fought the traitorous liberals throughout his long and distinguished career. I hope he’s having a great reunion with Ronaldus Magnus. May God bless and comfort his grieving family.
