Sen. John McCain will choose businessman and former Massachusetts Governor, Mitt Romney as Vice President, in his bid for the White House this November, a source closely connected with the McCain campaign, who asked to remain anonymous, told us earlier this afternoon.
Though others were close in the running, the choice ultimately came down to the moneynot the man. According to our source, the campaign narrowed their Vice Presidential options to Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney, the two most successful opponents of McCain in the bid for the Republican nomination. But despite Huckabees sway with far Right conservatives and evangelical voters, Romney packs the deepest fund-raising pockets.
As a successful businessman and prominent member of the staggeringly wealthy Mormon community, Romney brings with him the potential to raise upwards of $60 million in 30 to 60 days, whereas Huckabee could only raise $10 to $15 million, says our source.
McCain needs those types of numbers to be competitive with the money-sponge that is the Obama campaign, which has 1.7 million individual donorsas well as the Hollywood machineand is ringing-out advertising dollars across the country, saturating voters in his 50 State Strategy to win the White House.
How the hell did the publisher of the Top 20 Side-Boobs of All Time get this scoop, you must be asking yourself, right now. (We were asking ourselves the same question.) And heres the answer: Its all part of the McCain campaigns plan to directly target college-age voters, in an attempt to sway them away from Sen. Obama, says our source.
Additionally, the campaign wants to solidify their ticket far in advance of the Obama campaign making their VP choice, in order to get a head start on the surge in fund-raising they expect to receive with the announcement of Romney as the Republican VP pick.
So next time two dudes in suits knock on your door, they might want more than to proselytize about the Book of Mormon
UPDATE: We understand better than anyone how crazy it seems that we got this story first, so a healthy level of skepticism is expected. But we stand by the accuracy of our reporting on this, and will give you as many new details as possible in the coming daysincluding the name of our source, if we can.
Yes. That only applies to real Republicans. :-)
“He can do no wrong.”
Sounds like you need to spend more time reading the bible and a little less time worshipping false idols.
They disrupt the exchange of ideas and discredit the conservative movement. I think I need to resort to not responding to them because it is so obvious that they are only interested in name-calling.
Anyway, mark this post for 20 years from now. Because by then, Mitt Romney will be mentioned in the same breath as Ronald Reagan. He will be the savior of the Republican Party in the 21st century.
And considering who we have heading up our ticket this year, we need a savior.
I did not say that Romney was a conservative. He is not a Stalinist. He has a mixed record, and is better than Obama.
I would rather have a Ted Kennedy democrat than an Obama one by the way. At least Teddy understands something about the history of this nation, and one would hope that given a chance to sell her out his conscience would at least slow him down. Obama will destroy this nation. Period. And he will not have one ounce of regret in doing so. Teddy’s biggest problem politically at the moment is he is a typically blind democrat. I don’t even think the democrats realize the danger they are toying with at the moment.
I stand with JimRob on this one. I really don’t give a damn about his religion (unless he was a Mohammadan cultist). It’s his liberalism, his lack of character and piss-poor record that is of paramount concern.
We’ve got some excellent Governors that could be chosen. Sanford, Barbour, Heineman, Hoeven, Carcieri, Rounds... (Palin and Jindal are too green). Instead, we scrape the bottom of the barrel at the lowest point of the ocean floor. How this man is concerned remotely acceptable after the wreckage he left behind him demonstrates that this party has VERY serious problems. A suicidal death wish.
Conservatives don’t advance the cause of liberal trojan horses, madame.
My prediction is that Romney will be a magnificent campaigner on the trail and he'll do the Republican party really proud.
The duo will turn out to be a surprisingly good pair and will reinvigorate the conservatives.
Spare me the same old, same old anti-McCain, anti-Romney blather.....we all know it by heart. Besides, my reasoned prediction is as good as anyone else's, and probably better than most, heheh.

Romney wants to replace dont ask dont tell by ending all restrictions on homosexuality in our armed forces.
Romney claims to be a gun rights backer but cannot be a "true Second Amendment" supporter because he supports an assault weapons ban.
My goal is to elect conservatives. Free Republics goal is to elect conservatives. Romney is NO conservative.

Could've typed in *omney and come up with the same thing.
"Anyway, mark this post for 20 years from now. Because by then, Mitt Romney will be mentioned in the same breath as Ronald Reagan. He will be the savior of the Republican Party in the 21st century."
You mean like he saved the MA GOP ? I'm still waiting for that list of Conservative Republican names of all the people he helped elect to office in his state. Where is it ?
"And considering who we have heading up our ticket this year, we need a savior."
No, we need a Conservative. We're electing a President, we're not electing the Lord. If you want a savior, I suggest you try Jesus Christ.
Um, Ted Kennedy IS an Obama Democrat.
Kennedy endorses Obama (he never endorsed Hillary):

Conservatives don't sexually exploit young women. You disgust me.
Thank you. I’m in my 30s. I appreciate attractive females, present company excluded. :-)
You just made my day, grandma. :-)
Thus far, I have seen over the top irrational dribble coming from your posts. Don’t preach to me about intellectual integrity and knock it off with the personal attacks. They are unbecoming.
I’ve thought long and hard about this election and the candidates on the block. If we had a Reagan, I would be thrilled. We don’t. If Newt were running, I’d be happy. He isn’t. If any strong conservative had an ounce of a chance, I would be out there campaigning for him or her, but they aren’t out there. I used my vote for Huckabee in the primaries. I don’t want McCain, but he’s the belle that has been brought to the ball. I’ve studied Romney. I like him better than McCain because I think McCain can be a rather nasty individual to conservatives. Do I think Mitt is perfect. No. I do think he has good business sense from when I have heard him speak concerning business. That’ll be a plus in a poor economy. Is he pro-life? Says he is. People change their minds, you know. He’s not as pro-life as I would like him to be, but neither is McCain. Is he pro-military? Yes. And, he’s better on immigration than McCain. They are both pro-Israel and anti-islamofascism and are far more likely to nominate a Scalia than an Obama candidacy.
Given the dire straights that this nation now finds itself in, we need to stop it with the straining at gnats and try to get through this election with our heads still firmly planted on our necks.
IF Obama wins, Mr Robinson, myself, and you will likely not have the freedoms to post on a forum like this at long. You will then fully understand what Stalinism is at its worst, and Romney will appear to be Reaganesque in comparison.
