FBI Chief Unhappy With Supreme Court Ruling
kwtx.com ^ | July 1, 2008 | NA

The director of the FBI is not happy with the Supreme Court's recent handgun ruling.

Robert Mueller says he tends to believe that "weapons harm people, and more often than not they harm the people carrying them."

Mueller said the high court's decision, which threw out a handgun ban in Washington, D.C., "does throw a lot of things up in the air."

Mueller said communities will now have to decide their own licensing programs.

Mueller was speaking at a convention of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators in Hartford, Connecticut.

He says with his grandchildren going to college, he hopes "those campuses will be weapons-free."

Sometimes career law enforcement types get the "Us vs Them" bunker mentality and NOBODY but them can be trusted with firearms.

Those type think citizens are not to be trusted period. His type is the local police chief who just has to have those Red Light Cameras as a tool. One in my town wasn't satisfied with that he wants a candid camera van to snoop on persons. Not all but many in law enforcement after rising above the rank of Captain seem to take on an overlord attitude. It's not just guns these type are completely paranoid control freaks.

Rumsfeld, too. And me.

Attorney General Ashcroft was the co-chair of the National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women when I was a member.

We’re stuck with the Committee as well as the Act. At least the President had good people doing this job. Two of our members were women who had joined in the lawsuit to overturn the un-Constitutional part of that Act. Some of us were known pro-lifers. You can imagine the uproar.

" like Waco and Ruby Ridge"

Ruby Ridge, yes, but Waco was Wesley Clark's show. (the same fool that ordered the straifing of wagons full of women and children in Kosovo)

I’ll sure be glad once we get a republican administration back in the White House.

I'll sure be glad once we get a libertarian or a Jeffersonian liberal in the White Houe.

"The M-14, which replaced it, had and has far better manners"

The M1 is an excellent deer hunting rifle; the M14 is a reliable life saver.

In Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, only trained government agents had access to deadly firearms.

That's usually the case in most tyrannies, but it wasn't so in Iraq. It wasn't necessarily gov't stooges blasting off with firearms when celebrating weddings, etc. It's one of the reasons that after Saddam was overthrown that we allowed each house to have one AK-47. Their new Iraqi Constitution provides for the right to keep and bear arms as well, IIRC.

I remember stories about gunshops in Bagdhad prior to the invasion.

gunshop owner mistaken for armed assailant, Fallujah

You're assuming that Mr. Hussein is smart enough to play hardball.

I have my doubts.

I think he is a puppet.

Fire him Bush.

Relying upon G. W. Bush to do the right thing with any domestic matter is a fool's play.

Joe, I'm pinging you to this because it contains a couple of facts you may find edifying.

Keep your blinders on silverback, God help us if the truth should sneak out onto one of these threads.

Your gratuitous insult makes your point much more persuasive.

Two questions:

1. Could you give me an estimate of the number of people in the investigation who would know that the plane did not suffer a fuel tank explosion, and remained silent? (When calculating this, don't forget the NTSB team, the FBI team, TWA personnel, etc. Depending on your chosen theory of destruction, you may have to include most of the crew of a Navy ship and/or members of the Navy dive team.)

2. Which is easier to believe: That such a large group of people would remain silent for 12 years so far, or that a plane that was 33,000 flight hours and five calendar years past the recommended retirement age might have a wiring problem?

When answering, keep in mind that I used to be responsible for putting a 40 year old Boeing product in the air each day. I'm not likely to be buffaloed.

Interesting ideas. I’ll throw it in the hopper for Constitution version 2.0. We’ll call it the El Gato clause.

See post 169 for an anlysis based on numbers of self-inflicted firearm deaths. Not exactly John Lott, but I think I got in the ballpark.

Why did you cover up TWA 800?

Didn't happen. See post 90 and the replies that proceed from it.

Som people are cluless about how much good this administration has done, but if Obama gets elected they may wise up slightly.

Not proven in what you've indicated.

Plausible explanation by others: test of shoe bomber location.

CIA animation does warrant best comic animation.

Thank you for letting it drop.
