Canada truck crash releases 12 million bees

Twelve million honey bees were released along Canada's largest highway in northwest New Brunswick, yesterday after a crashed and flipped over.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the lorry had 330 crates of bees on board when the driver tried to negotiate a ramp. The load apparently shifted inside the trailer, sending the entire vehicle off balance and causing it to overturn.

At least 12 million bees escaped as the lorry's container burst open and the crates were tossed around, but police said a downpour

Police said a downpour of rain has helped to contain the bees in and around the truck.

"Mother Nature has been very cooperative with us. Bees don't like the rain ... thousands of bees are hanging on the back of this truck and on the pavement right behind," said Derek Strong, an RCMP spokesman.

Bee experts from Canada's government agriculture body were called in to help deal with the accident.

Smoke was pumped into the back of the truck to calm the remaining bees, while paramedics and ambulances were put on standby in case people endured multiple bee stings or had an allergic reaction to a sting. The driver of the truck was not hurt.

Richard Duplain, vice-president of the New Brunswick Beekeepers Association, said it was difficult to predict whether the bees would be docile or agitated given their ordeal.

Sidesplitting...

they’ll need more money for that study..GPS equipped collars for tracking those bees will no doubt be expensive.

"It was a carefully hatched plan to liberate these millions of hostage bees by utilizing a “suicide stinger”. Look at the front grill of the truck......."

I'm wondering where all the PETA activists (with fake boobs, wearing synthetic clothing, whose fabric causes major pollution of rivers in China during it's chemical production) demanding that the captive bee industry be shut down, that it's cruel to these "animals" to be locked up in these man made hives, no room to turn around, wallowing in their own feces, etc. etc.

Now they are going to be eaten by predator animals,(birds) from which they have no natural learned defence from.

Oh how the heart bleeds... (but it's funny to see those cowardly reporters getting stung as they run away, preventing them from making a global doom story out of the incident)

11,999 bees searched for water and found it at a nearby Shell station. The remaining bee left the swarm and headed straight for an Esso station. Moral: there is always one Esso bee in every crowd.

Perhaps they will will refuse to pollinate unless they're compensated...

And the Queens...what about the queens??? Are they being discriminated against??

After 9000 years of oppression, the bees deserve reparations.

In our area south of New Brunswick, bees dwindled. This spring I never saw so many bumblebees pollenating. But then bees came back. Pollination got done one way or another.

I think it is Biblical, Bee Attitudes.
