HARARE (AFP) — Robert Mugabe was sworn in Sunday for a sixth term of office as Zimbabwe president after being declared winner of a one-man election widely denounced throughout the world as an illegitimate farce.

"I will well and truly serve this country in the office of president, so help me God," 84-year-old Mugabe said at a ceremony at his State House residence, presided over by Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku.

He was sworn in within four hours. Counting the votes goes quicker when there is only one candidate on the ballot. Or perhaps, the count was in before the polls opened?

Every one in Zimbabwe knows he would stay in office no matter what the voters said. He "won" 85% of the votes. Truly a vote of confidence in the President For Life!

Mugabe will likely die in office. And his successors are not likely to do any better at turning the economy around.

From 42.9% to 85% in the space of one election. That's an impressive increase in popularity!

And he became more popular by burning down people’s homes, beating them, murdering them, and throwing them in prison. He’s an outside the box kind of populist.

Mugabe is a man of the people. The way you win elections is, take care of the little guy.

Validating the goal of Leftists/Communists worldwide..

One man, One vote, One time —— after that, you fools can kiss my ass.

Zimbabwe is doomed, and SHOULD suffer the consequences for not having ONE MAN willing to shoot the sonuvabitch who has destroyed their lives and their nation...

Ineffective or lack of action by the citizens of Zimbabwe and all other African “nations”, simply points out that Africa still dances to the drums of stone age society — and unworthy of any further investment in blood or treasure to alter that “Cultural” behavior.

Actually, isn’t is a racist action - any attempt to force Africans into a more civilized behavior?

Wow, it took nearly two months to count the ballots in the first round of elections.

Mugabe is to be congratulated on streamlining the ballot counting process!!

Idi Amin and Mugabe are one in the same. Fascist tyrants who would sooner see their citizens murdered and their societies destroyed before relinquishing any type of authority.

84 is old.

Maybe it doesn't even matter

The next few months may be interesting. If the MDC can be crushed further, Mugabe himself may be expendible, and with no one else to claim leadership, the military will take control openly.

I have a good feeling now about President Mugabe and the prospects for Zimbabwe after this election. If the people there just unite behind him, I think his plans for economic turnaround will succeed.
