Warrant: Carson taken from home
Raleigh News-Observer ^ | 6/28/2008 | Jesse J. DeConto

A confidential witness told investigators that Demario Atwater said he and Laurence Lovette Jr. took Eve Carson from her home March 5 after entering through an open door, according to search warrants made public Friday.

The documents offered the first detailed public accounts of the crime, in which Atwater and Lovette are accused of killing Carson, the student body president at UNC-Chapel Hill.

According to the witness, Atwater told her he and Lovette forced Carson into the back seat of her Toyota Highlander and drove her to an ATM.

Lovette shot Carson multiple times, and Atwater subsequently shot her with a different weapon, the witness told investigators.

I am not a racist and I have several black friends but something has got to change. Violent offenders need to be locked in a cage and removed from society. I don’t see a need for three strikes. If we removed them the first time, their won’t be a second or third strike.

I couldn't agree more.

In North Carolins, I am willing to bet they rot for 10 years and then get the death penalty. I lived in Raleigh at the time and no amount of liberal leaning will save these two. Also Chapel Hill may be a liberal enclave, but Durham and Orange counties as a whole are not.

This kind of crime really freaks me out. With the rising gasoline prices and the declining economy, I'm afraid we are going to here more and more stories like this one.
Scumbags that won't work and want everyone to give 'um something for free will start busting in folks homes to get money or like this case, abduct them and force them to get them money.
I'll definitely keep mine "locked-n-loaded".

When will these sub human trash criminals ever learn....they kill for a few measly $$....destroy a family and create heartbreak and then they get thrown in prison for a long time or get death. It’s a lose-lose-lose event. the 3rd ‘lose’ is the taxpayers paying to support these vermin in prison.

We still don't know that. The local news (I live in Durham) said that "they entered the house through an open door to abduct Eve Carson." That doesn't automatically imply random.

Yeah, I still wonder about the randomness of it.

Eve Carson tutored at Frank Porter Graham Elementary School & Githens Middle School, and I can't help but wonder if she might have crossed paths with these two somehow [maybe they might have been older brothers or cousins of someone she was tutoring]:

Frank Porter Graham Elementary School

29% Black
14% Hispanic

Sherwood Githens Middle School
20% White
56% Black
19% Hispanic
48% Eligible for Free Lunch

Life sentence of hard labor. Nothin’ cruel or unusual about it. Let ‘em make gravel from boulders until they die!

Your post is right on. Soon, I’ll be sending my daughter to college and can only imagine the grief this family is going through, and always will. You raise your children the best you can, support them in sports, clubs, friends, academics, and they make it to college and become a student leader. A parent’s pride is second only to the hope, joy and dreams of their child.

Then, some savage POS scares her, brutalizes her, and murders her for their own entertainment as if they had the right. The insult is cast by liberalism that examines the savage’s past to find excuses and make him a victim to explain it all away. (don’t know if that has happened here)

I’m vigilant to teach my teenage daughter the importance of trusting her instincts. Sure, it isn’t PC, and yes, it may appear mean, but being quick to judge and react may save her life. There is a time and place to be friendly and empathetic, but never, ever with a stranger. All I expect of her is to be non-offensive, never to feel guilty for someone else’s situation.

We are living with the consequences of victimology, ie. liberalism. Savages are equal-opportunity offenders.

k.

Did this young woman live alone? If so, she may have left a door unlocked awaiting a visitor. If she had roommates, one of them could have left it unlocked. Or she may just have forgotten to lock it. If she lived in a nice neighborhood, she could have let her guard down at just the wrong time.

Ted Bundy was able to get into the sorority house at FSU because of the habit of the girls to leave one door unlocked for their sorority sisters who were coming in after curfew.

Soon, I’ll be sending my daughter to college...

My daughter here in Virginia will be a Junior this year and due to on-campus housing shortages she will be living off campus.

She will be armed and is trained well in how to aim and shoot fast and the way she does it on the range I would not want to confront her as a bad guy!

“she may have left a door unlocked”

Leaving a door unlocked is not an excuse for someone to walk on in to rob, kill or maime. Why don’t we have equal rights to leave our doors unlocked rather than sounding stupid if we do? These guys will walk if the defense team can prove a door was open.

I’d assume that the roommates left it unlocked. A post I read on another forum from someone who lived in the same house prior to Eve stated that they rarely, if ever, locked the doors. There was just never perceived to be a “need” to do so.

It is possible that the owner of the site is only showing minority crime. I don’t know.

Here is another crime site which shows the victims rather than the criminals. Most of the victims are minorities: http://tacomaconfidential.typepad.com/the_murder_book_2008/

Someday, maybe, something will be done about this stupid violence.

Apparently the head wound sustained by Carson was so grievous that a facial recognition was impossible and she had to be identified by her roommates based on a unique piece of jewelry (necklace?) that she wore.

I didn't say it gave the creeps the excuse to kidnap and kill the girl, but in this day and age, folks know it's dangerous to leave doors unlocked. My point was that she likely may not have known it was was open and she was vulnerable.

Even if a door was open, I'm sure she did not let them into the house willingly, and they had no business being there, so they entered unlawfully.

Your post is the most disturbing...

..they shot her multiple times....she was unrecognizable...(from what I'm reading)

..this wasn't just robbery...

..this was evil personified...pure unadulterated satanic evil.

A source has told the Raleigh Chronicle that Eve Carson’s head injuries from the gunshot wound were so extensive that she had to be identified by a unique piece of jewelry that she was wearing. The source said that the item was something that was uniquely identifiable and was known to be worn by Carson.

Police have not revealed how many times Carson was shot, saying only that she was shot “multiple” times. However, the autopsy report, when released, will provide more details in the matter.

The autopsy in Eve Carson’s case has not yet been released to the public, but Orange County Superior Court Judge Allen Baddour said Wednesday that Carson’s autopsy report will be released on June 30th, as the investigation into the case would not be affected.
