Bolton: Washington committed serious mistake by recognizing Kosovo’s independence

American Deputy Secretary of State John Bolton believes the United States committed a serious mistake when it recognized the independence of Kosovo. He fears such policy may escalate tensions in the Balkans. In an interview for the Russian news agency Interfax, Mr. Bolton remarked that Washingtons policy was on autopilot since the regime of the late Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic. But the situation has changed considerably after the democratic government took over, which, in Mr. Boltons opinion, makes support for Kosovos independence a pointless atavism.

For 6 months? Would he want it? I don’t think that President Bush is going to replace anyone at this point.

And McCain, even if he wins, won’t. Because Bolton has got a brain and isn’t a yes man.

From the UK: John Boulton comes over as the most sensible man on the planet.
Is he too forthright to be a presidential candidate - too many enemies?

If this straight-shootin’ Yosemite Sam is put on the ticket, I’d gladly vote for Juan McCrazy.

Bolton’s enemies in Congress and the State Dept are probably
less because of his being “forthright”, and more because
he is pro-America (unlike them).

Why doesn't someone make John Bolton Secretary of State? Why doesn't John Bolton pull papers and run for office? I see him as a self appointed ministre sans portefeuille. Test the waters John.

Ever hear the name “Bork”?
“Why doesn’t John Bolton pull papers and run for office?”
I’d vote for John Bolton for any position he wanted to run for.

Why doesn't someone make John Bolton Secretary of State? Because he's completely full of crap. During the 1990s he was a strong advocate of U.S. military intervention in the Balkans to topple the Serb government and separate Kosovo from "greater Yugoslavia."

Why doesn't John Bolton pull papers and run for office? I'd switch my vote from Barr to Bolton. Bolton is infinitely better than McCain.

What I don’t understand here is Bolton is Undersecretary of State, and even after Bush has decided for Kosovo Independence, Bolton is still talking about this — to Russia, no less. Kind of a surprise that Bolton wouldn’t fall in line with the Administration’s position, regardless of what he thought or had said previously.
Bolton is right on this, but it does make you wonder what goes on over there at Foggy Bottom and why Bolton doesn’t give a darn what Bush — or even McCain— thinks.
