NARAL Catholics Line Up for Obama
Wall Street Journal ^ | June 24, 2008 | William McGurn

Posted on 06/24/2008 2:50:31 AM PDT by Zakeet

You are the Democratic candidate for president. You want to reach out to Catholics. So what do you do when the majority of the elected officials on your National Catholic Advisory Council have the seal of approval from NARAL Pro-Choice America?

That's the position Barack Obama now finds himself in. A few months ago, his Catholic advisory council was announced with great enthusiasm, and Sen. Bob Casey (D., Pa.) was listed as a national co-chair. His appearance at the top of the council sent a clear message: This campaign is determined to recover some of the lost Democratic sheep who have gravitated to the GOP over abortion.

This council does indeed include some Catholics whose pro-life credentials are impeccable, including Minnesota Congressman James Oberstar. But let us also stipulate the obvious: Of the 21 senators, congressmen and governors listed on the council's National Leadership Committee, 17 have a 90%-100% NARAL approval rating. Even Mr. Casey now enjoys a 65% NARAL approval rating.

It's not as if these NARAL scores are outliers: Sen. Obama himself boasts a 100% NARAL rating, and for good reason. In a speech before Planned Parenthood, he declared that the right to an abortion is at stake in this election, and vowed that he would not yield on appointing judges that would uphold Roe v. Wade.

Mr. Obama is for using tax dollars to fund abortions, and against restrictions on partial-birth abortion. In the Illinois Senate, he voted against legislation protecting a child who was born alive despite an abortion. In sum, if you want to know what Mr. Obama's policies mean, it's this: taxpayer-funded abortion on demand.

There is no gray area in the Catholic teaching on abortion. Casey and the rest of them can say whatever they want for political reasons, but they are either Catholic or they are not. Can’t have it both ways.

I honestly don’t see how any Catholic could support him. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Casey does have it both ways. He enjoys having his fathers reputation attached to his own political star. Casey claims pro life ideals but he is far from it. He is an opportunist with a popular father. He milks it every election.

Why would he after (most likely) the generous donation casey made to his diocese? Why wont the Archbishop of Boston discipline Kerry or Kennedy? You dont think it has anything to do with donations, do you?

The Roman Catholic Church has evolved into the oldest, and most profitable mutlinational corporation.

Is there any Catholic Politician who promoted the Pro Life Agenda with more vigor and dedication that Senator Rick Santorum?

How many honorary degrees has Senator Rick Santorum ever received at Catholic Universities?

No orthodox Catholic will support Obama. Given his position on the lives of the unborn, which is considered a GRAVE wrong, no Catholic should ever vote for Obama in this election.

No, it has not. However, there are many who call themselves Catholic and there are some clergy who do not follow the teachings of the Church and who do not have the intimate relationship with Christ that they should have. St. Augustine once said that the floor of hell is paved with the sculls of bishops.

The teachings of the Church, however, have not changed....nowr will they.

I’ve always found it interesting that you could lay claim to being a man of God while at the same time be supportive of killing babies in the womb.

I wonder what God thinks of that?

Santorum received some strong criticism on this site for his support of Specter in the primary v. Toomey. I suspect that constituted a small but not insignificant contribution to his loss. Santorum became a primary target of the gay lobby that used its vast resources to assure his defeat.

NARAL Catholics is a great phrase. It rings like “limousine liberal”.

Pelosi, Mikulski (my senator), Kennedy come quickly to mind.

Just watch when TED Kennedy dies, you will see all of the Catholic Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, priest and other Clery come to praise this leading proponent of abortion.

It appears that the Catholic hierarchy have more time for the PRO ABORTION CATHOLIC and ignore the PRO LIFE CATHOLICS like Senator Rick Santorum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pro-abortion Catholics? No such thing.

Once you announce you're pro-abortion in public, you're no longer Catholic. Latae Sententiae, baby.

Pro-abortion Catholics? No such thing.

Pro-abortion Christians? No such thing. That is what a pastor once said.

"I don't know how anyone can attend a church on Sunday, and vote for a democrat the following Tuesday."
