Barack Obamas decision to move his campaign headquarters to Chicago suggests a redesigned, tightened-up election effort aimed at Grand Old Party (GOP) nominee John McCain, with no bitter aftertaste from the Democratic primaries.
It will be quite a change, for better or worse. There was a major television roll-out of a supposed new image for Michelle Obama, who shapes up as a controversial, hot GOP target for her goofy remarks about Americas presumed shortcomings. The public relations stunt didnt work very well: Michelle Obama seemingly called her husband pathetic on The View on ABC, not exactly the adoring wife model voters prefer. She quickly insisted that she had called him empathetic. To her credit she is, pardon the comparison, a little too independent and outspoken in the mould of Hillary Clinton to be palmed off as another Laura Bush. The current first lady is popular mostly because shes just a ghostly presence who stands by the presidents side and shows up in pretty clothes. She has kept her thoughts to herself and her mouth shut during most of the White House years.
Only recently has she discovered trouble spots in the world, such as Burma, but all she provides is soothing words that international power brokers can feel free to ignore. By contrast, Michelle Obama is adroit at displays of outrage. But campaigning for her husband makes Michelle Obama fair game.
Ironically, he expects to get some of that financial help from Hillary Clintons supporters, whom he thinks will be more generous in spirit to him than he has lately been to her.
One of his direct-mail appeals cites Clintons approval and support. But Obama has shown Clinton little respect. There was the deliberate slap in Clintons face with the ostentatious hiring of Clintons fired former chief of staff, Patti Solis Doyle, as the new Obama head honcho of whomever Obamas running mate might turn out to be. Clearly now it wont be Clinton. Doyle is just another good ole Chicago girl, the Obama crowd snickered. Her selection had nothing to do with Obamas mean streak, which drives him to punish Clinton by making her squirm. The memories of the 1968 Democratic national convention linger on, featuring riots in the streets and Hubert Humphrey enduring tear gas that wafted in through the open windows of his hotel room as Democrats nominated him for the presidency.
Party officials refused to return the convention to the city for a quarter century. But if Obama is elected president, all will be forgiven, and the current Mayor Dick Daley, son of the late, original Mayor Richard Daley chief villain of the 1968 convention will return the family name to its old power-soaked glory.
It will all get rougher if Michelle Obama doesnt get in line with the candidates public service message. Politics, as the late Speaker Tip ONeill used to say, aint bean bag. During the primaries, Michelle Obama told an Ohio audience: We left corporate America, which is a lot of what were asking young people to do. Dont go into corporate America. What is she talking about? She is clearly not someone who believes the business of America is business. Her husband says he doesn't directly take lobbyist contributions, but he is happy to take them when they come to him through third parties. Money, after all, is necessary in Politics, as in the rest of life. All of us, including the Obamas, are part of the same democratic, money-fuelled system.
She aint neva believed that he cood run...
What is wrong with corporate America? a lot of people would not be employed if not for corporations..but then I guess the democrats are against any one who makes a profit..unless it is them..
I just cant imagine here, as first lady, greeting the leader of Israel at a White House state dinner. ;-)
"I like White Castle dinner, yo."
They are both their own downfalls.

Won’t talk to American Generals about the war though
He’s a bum among bums.
BO says to leave his woman alone!
Good advice—too late for him,but good advice anyway.
“She will be his downfall, IMO, especially if any kind of “whitey” video surfaces.”
I believe this video will be Obama’s downfall if it is actually investigated!

Here in the US, the NitWit Media so often celebrate politicians "reinventing themselves". Al Gore with his brown and tan "Alpha Male", Hillary! with her "Girly-Girl" tone of voice......
Middle-aged people who don't know who the hell they are, or how to act, should not be celebrated. They shouldn't even be acknowledged, if they run for high office. They scream "I Am a Phony, a Chameleon, I am Easy to See Through."
“The public relations stunt didnt work very well: Michelle Obama seemingly called her husband pathetic on The View on ABC, not exactly the adoring wife model voters prefer.”
She’s just being honest.
And I just know she beats him.
Yeah, it would be so much better if she was an arrogant loudmouth, and argued with her husband in public all the time.
It amazes me how little controversy Laura Bush has caused in the last decade. In spite of that veiled "opinion" in her eyes, she has chosen the better option. I would not want to be married to her. I would not want to mess with her. But, she has......
Class. Dignity.
Only Democrat politicians.
If a Republican were to try this, the media talking heads would be smirking as they pointed out how lame the attempt was and how not even the village idiot would buy it.
Re-Inventing Myself = I Am a Phony.
Mediots Celebrating = We Are Phonies, and We Love Phonies.
Pretty simple stuff.
What? You put turkey necks in the greens?
I’m expecting Robert Mugabe and you put turkey necks in the greens, turkey necks come from Turkey, now, give me some skin.
Oh, go bake a cookie. Laura Bush doesn't look ghostly, she looks just fine.
No public good is served by a presidential spouse aspiring to be a co-president.
For heaven's sake, don't do that! Put a microphone in front of her every chance we can get and ask her tough policy questions. Her mouth will do massive damage to Hussein Obama.
In general I completely agree with you.
But I'll bet you missed (or have forgotten) the annual press dinner/roast a few years ago where Laura took over for GWB at the podium and told off-color, bawdy stories about him. It was outrageous, but also fantastically funny and well-received, in part because Laura is, as you say, classy.
But it did set some records -- I don't think any other First Lady has ever told a story about going to a male strip club, or about a President masturbating a horse. Made the old story about Bess Truman (when Harry used the word "manure" and the press was scandalized, and her response was "You have no idea how long it took me to get him to say 'manure'!") seem mighty tame by comparison.
If you haven't seen the video, do so -- it's a hoot.
