One Million Americans Petition Congress to Drill for American Oil
Breitbart ^ | June 19 2008 | Staff

WASHINGTON, June 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Solutions for Winning the Future announced today that one million Americans have signed the "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" petition urging Congress to immediately start drilling for American oil to lower gas prices.

The petition reads:

"We, therefore, the undersigned citizens of the United States, petition the U.S. Congress to act immediately to lower gasoline prices (and diesel and other fuel prices) by authorizing the exploration of proven energy reserves to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries."

"The voices of one million Americans are sending a clear message to Congress that we can do more with our huge energy resources here at home," said Newt Gingrich, American Solutions' General Chairman. "With hard-working Americans struggling to pay for soaring gas and diesel prices, it's likely gas prices will be the defining issue in November. Our elected officials have a simple choice: Either take action to drill here and drill now for American oil or the American people will take action this fall."

I wonder if he will do us the favor of falling on one of those swords — politicaLLY or literally.

How much more of this BS are we going to take? We vote and elect politicians to represent us and then they go and represent their own private views. We should vote every SOB out of Congress.

Let them know that anyone that doesn’t vote for drilling will get voted out this election period.

I signed, but in the end it won’t really matter. I still remember Frist saying... “It’s the will of the Senate” regarding shamnesty for illegal aliens. Doesn’t take a rhode scholar to figure out that the common man is quickly becoming extinct in today’s political world. What ever happened to “Will of the People”?

OOPS! That was for the extension of the Patriot Act... Still I don’t like that saying as I find it historically ominous.

Can’t think of too big an argument against that.

Right now? Probably little guys with pitchforks...

Maybe -- but pitchforks, like the old Colt .45, tend to make little guys more than a little bit bigger.

"We, [the] citizens of the United States . . . .

The Rat Party (formerly the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party) made the Wright decision. No, no, no. God damn America! No drilling, no shale, no nuke power.

Next step: Obamanation. ""We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK."

The new America and our day-to-day needs. "We, the citizens of the United States, appeal to the World. Please, Sir, we want some more."

"Ummm.. change." Homer Simpson.

Can’t dispute that in any way. And talking to them about signing that petition can be part of that reaching out.

I didn’t sign the petition. Instead I wrote my Senator. He will be getting a fax and a phone call for added measure. It is my understanding that “petitions” do not hold as much weight as well thought out personal communication.

I did not mince words and told him how I see it. From the people demanding we nationalize to socialists to traitors.

Hate to say it, but online petitions aren’t generally taken seriously by anyone that matters.

Now if 1/3 of those who signed the petition also wrote, faxed AND called their congressman and Senators, you might see some action.

America already has an answer from Congress; “The Oil companies already own 65 million acres of land to drill on, yet they have failed to do so. WE will not give them any more when they will not drill on the land they already have been given.”

Of course this is land that has been surveyed and contains either no oil, or not enough to waste the time and money to drill.

But the Ignorant public believes what ever rhetoric the Democrats spew out at the press.

So, don’t expect any action until after the election when it will suddenly become a bright new idea that the Democrats just thought of. And they will get full credit for it of course. WE shall see.........

My husband and I signed it when it first started, and everyone of my regulars at my blog signed it.
I am glad to see the update on how many have signed so far. Thank you.

Drill the concept of domestic energy into the heads of the congress.

In the end it turned out to be the will of the people and shamnesty didn't pass. The same thing can happen here, raised by two or three powers, since the message of the absolute need to drill and refine is brought home to everyone every time he or she fills up at the pump.
