Barack's Bounce (Newsweek poll: Obama 51%, McCain 36%)(LINK to full poll internals)
Newsweek ^ | June 20, 2008 | Michael Hirsh

Posted on 06/20/2008 9:12:15 PM PDT by FocusNexus

Obama's current lead also reflects the large party-identification advantage the Democrats now enjoy - 55 percent of all voters call themselves Democrats or say they lean toward the party while just 36 percent call themselves Republicans or lean that way.

Obama's personal ratings have improved, as well: 62 percent of voters overall say they have a favorable opinion of him compared to only 26 percent who have an unfavorable opinion. By comparison, McCain's ratings are 49 percent favorable to 37 percent unfavorable, representing a drop from his previous 54 percent favorable rating.

Obama is trusted more to handle what may prove the biggest issue of the 2008 election - the economy and jobs - by a wide margin (54 percent to 29 percent). He also has a sizable advantage on energy policy, 48 percent to 34 percent, despite McCain's attempts this week to turn voters his way by supporting some new oil drilling and renewing his call for a gas-tax holiday. Voters do not lean as strongly to Obama on the issue of the Iraq War, but he is still preferred over McCain by 46 percent to 40 percent.

"55 percent of all voters call themselves Democrats or say they lean toward the party while just 36 percent call themselves Republicans or lean that way." is the unfortunate reality.

12% of Republicans said they will vote for Obama. Those are the real RINOs.

A lot of good information in this article, showing the historic trend:

Current and history of voter identification (Pew Research)

Note that the Pew poll shows 36% Dem, 35% Independents (with 15% leaning Dem and only 10% leaning Republican) and 27% Republicans. So if you add the 36% Dems and 15% Dem leaning Independents, you get 51% Dem or Dem leaners, which is consistent with this poll, leaving 27% Republicans and 10% Republican leaning Independents.

McCain is such a weak candidate that Obama might just win.

It’s a no-brainer. The only weakness is with those voters who refuse to admit they lost and suck it up and do what’s best.

“poll-manipulation alert.
how-to-lie-with-statistics alert.”

That was my first reaction. My intent was to find polls about voter party identification and show exactly how they undersampled Republicans to manipulate the polls.

Unfortunately, I found that while they did indeed undersample Republicans, it was only by 4% and that does not account for the large gap. What does account for it is that now only little over 25% of the voters are Republicans.

The point is not to go home and cry into one’s beer, wine, or brandy, and give up, but to recognize that we need all the votes we can get to defeat Obama.

“Overall, voters see Obama as the preferred agent of “change” by a margin of 51 percent to 27 percent. Younger voters, in particular, are more likely to see Obama that way: those 18 to 39 favor the Illinois senator by 66 percent to 27 percent. The two candidates are statistically tied among older voters.”

Polls are meaningless. They can be skewed to show anything. A lot of people I know (myself included) lie to pollsters if they get a call from them.

It's nobody's business how I plan to vote in this or any other election, and many people think the same way about that as I do.

Exactly — sulking will only give us President Obama, with a Dem Congress, creating a leftist activist SCOTUS, with all its consequences.

McCain is scared to throw any hard punches at Obama, and continues to use terms like “let’s debate our differences” and “we just have honest disagreements.”

While at the same time, Obama and the Dem henchmen constantly get quoted saying “MCCAIN IS A TOTAL FAILURE” and that McCain is responsible for “SEVEN YEARS OF ECONOMIC DISASTER” ....

... and that “McCAIN AND BIG OIL ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR $4.50 gas” and .....

and that “McCAIN WANTS THE US TO STAY IN IRAQ for 100 years.”

McCain is dreaming if thinks the public will “notice” that he is a nice guy, and thus vote Republican.

If McCain doesn’t grow some stones and get energized, he WILL lose by 15%.

From the Pew article:

Despite these trends, the proportion of voters who identify with the Democratic Party outright has not increased in recent years. Currently, 36% say they think of themselves as a Democrat, virtually unchanged from 2004 (35%) and 2000 (35%). Instead, as the proportion of self-identified Republicans has decreased, the percentage of independents has grown substantially, from 32% in 2004 to 37% today.

What does account for it is that now only little over 25% of the voters are Republicans.

McCain is Republican in name only.

IF the majority of Americans ARE Democrats these days, then they need to consider the two Democrat friendly candidates who are running for the White House.

The majority of Americans are NOT Marxist nor are they pro terrorist (domestic or foreign).

The radical rhetoric of the 1960s is NOT embraced by the majority of Americans. But as Newsweak and the DNC try to spin McCain as a 4th term of Bush (as Obama himself said, yep FOURTH), some sheeple may really think that McCain is a diehard conservative right winger despite he frequent plays to the Left.

Give it to them... they started all this crap about how bad things are... If America thinks its all doom and gloom because the Media tells them it is then give the govt to the Rats and when we are in the Greater Depression, Soup lines, Rocket inflation, Rationing of Gas and Food, unemployment rats at 10 percent and higher... and islamic terror attacks in our school yards two or three times a year... then that will be the CHANGE that America is obviously voting for....

The only platform the rats have run on for 8 years now is that everything Bush has done is wrong for America.... What they fail to realize is that its all going to come back on them 10 fold when they get power....

So give it to them... Pray and protect your own the best you can.. until they take our guns away...
