CABLE GUYS LUST FOR TIM'S JOB (K.O. "threatened to quit" if not given Russert's spot, source says

TIM Russert's body wasn't even cold in the ground before MSNBC anchors Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann started jockeying for his job, sources claim.

Matthews was heard loudly discussing what seemed to be his strategy for landing Russert's "Meet the Press" show at Wednesday's memorial reception for the NBC Washington bureau chief at the Kennedy Center in DC. After Brian Williams, Carl Bernstein, David Gergen, Barbara Walters and NBC brass eulogized their friend, Matthews huddled with an unidentified "agent type" and seemed to be plotting...

Meanwhile, Matthews' MSNBC cable cohort Olbermann, who was also at the memorial, is "threatening to quit if he isn't installed as Russert's replacement," another insider said. "I know, it sounds ludicrous, but, then, Keith Olbermann is ludicrous."

Neither of those two bozos could even carry Russert’s shoes, let alone host his show.

Olbermann is on record as stating it isn’t true, and also saying he didn’t consider himself qualified for the Meet the Press slot. Surely one of the few truthful comments he’s ever made.

It was probably Matthews who put out the rumor about Olbermann - - glad to see Olbermann's setting the record straight.

Isn’t Olbermann one of the guys at ESPN who got arrested for urinating from atop a building?

...are you serious? This actually happened? Details please, if you have them.

They couldn’t possibly be so stupid as to give it to Olbermann. He’s a joke. I don’t think any Republicans and/or Conservative should ever go on that show again. Who cares? It’s not like we’re ever given a fair shake. Hire a new non partison host for Fox News Sunday and air it the same time as Meet the Press. Get it in their pocketbook.

I understand Brian Williams has been announced as the interim replacement. I wouldn't be surprised if they bring Brokaw out of semi-retirement to do it while they settle on a permanent replacement.

Whatever they do, I think they should change the name of MTP. Russert left a pair of shoes that no one at NBC is able to fill. It simply can’t be the show it was without him.

This is vulturing, but it’s the nature of the TV news business. If Hannity died an untimely death, there would be plenty of conservative commentators jockeying for his TV and radio slots. I’d like to think they’d be a little more discreet and classy about it, but believe me...there would be a lot of people who saw his untimely demise as an *opportunity* to be exploited.

The Post story forced Olbermann last night to deny he wanted the job and to state he was not qualified for it.

Great job NY Post!

I hope NBC does put Keith Olbermann in Russert’s spot. It would show what scumsucking Libs they are and their ratings would tank!

As a brand, I have held NBC news lower than even CBS with Dan Rather. The LOWEST moment for NBC came during 2004 and it allowed Kitty Kelley to appear promoting a book which was UNSOURCED and which she accused Laura Bush of dealing drugs in college. None of other than Chwissy Mathews did one of the interviews where Kelley made this claim. The problem for NBC in naming Mathews or Olbermann as moderator of MTP is not with conservatives or even those closer to the middle, it is with the left of the Democrat Party. Olbermann and Mathews treatment of Barry caused some hard feelings among Democrats loyal to the witch. Of course these two would be terribly unfair to any conservative, Republican or even RINO. But there are Democrats who might shy away from appearing with these two slobbering Obamiacs.

Keith Olberman has absolutely ZERO tact, talent, class, respect, or intelligence. I wish he could take Russert’s current place. That’s a trade I’d be willing to make.

The #1, The Undefeated, The Best, The Only replacement who could keep the show at it's current standard (and perhaps raise it) would be none other than our friend...BRIT HUME...

Brian Williams will start this Sunday on a trial basis, so he is def a contender.

NBC just needs to look at the MSNBC viewership for those newsie-talk personages.

They hardly bring a half-million TOTAL combined viewership. If they can’t draw viewers to cable, they certainly can repel regular viewers from MTP.

In a delicious bit of irony, how about if NBC managed to get Bill O'Reilly to take over MtP?

Hmmmm.... now that brings up another idea......I hear Katie's looking for a new gig.....

If Olberdork or Matthews got the job, no one from the right side would ever come on the show. They are an embarrasment, and a disgrace.

This makes me sick to my stomack.

What'a riot... none of these DNC toads could hold a candle to the master of subtle propaganda... the “peoples hero”... Comrade Timothy Russert. All of the DNC lap-dogs on NBC/MSNBC come across as babbling, hyper-active non-adults. They apply their bias haphazardly and with a shovel... rather than carefully selected with the tools of a surgeon.

Nobody will replace Russert's confidence in framing and directing the argument in favor of... “the struggle”.
