I also paraphrased the headline. Not sure if this is an acceptable way to post articles from you-know-who?

I want Hawaii to leave, too, as long as we get to keep a base there.

The population is amazingly bigoted and it would mean 2 less Dim senators and a couple Dim congressmen.

Obama grew up in Hawaii. Can I nominate him for king of Hawaii?

I’m not sure if this is constitutional, but couldn’t the state have a monarchy on its level and still be part of the republic, so long as the state-level monarchy did not violate the pertinent provisions of the constitution? That would be rather interesting.

"I want Hawaii to leave... The population is amazingly bigoted..."

You aren't kidding one bit! In high school they have an end of school year day called "Kill Haole Day!" This is the day they beat the crap out of white kids, aka haoles. And it's sanctioned by all the schools!

There is a clause in the US constitution prohibiting hereditary offices and titles of nobility.

Nah. I don't agree. Once it starts, there'll be no end to breaking up this nation. I'd steer clear of those types of plans.

They’d be an independent monarchy for about a day and a half before being annexed by Red China.

The rest is connected, ‘cept Alaska, and I don’t worry about them.

Hawaii needs to go away.

Yes, I remember that now that you mention it. Here is the full text:

“No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State.”

So I wonder if this would technically apply, since it refers to the title granted by the United States itself.

Here’s a bit on the subject from a poster on this site:

http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html

“Nobility, Title of
Nobility is technically a station in society that is had simply by being born into the right family. The class of persons, well-characterized by the aristocracy of Great Britain, were considered to be higher in status and power because of the family name. A title of nobility indicated that status, where a person was a king, queen, prince, princess, count, countess, duke, duchess, baron, or baroness; these titles were granted by the monarch at some point in the family history and passed from parent to child. The Framers wished to ensure that no such system of heredity developed in the United States and specifically prohibited any state or the federal government from granting any title of nobility. Suggested by: Ian (board regular)”

so this poster interprets it in such a way that it limits the individual states as well as the United States collectively.

Not to worry. If Obama is elected we’ll really have a dictator for life. Then we will all have to worry.

Weird thing is: actual nobility couldn't get away with the stuff Teddy Kennedy, Bill Clinton etc have done.

Never mind, I didn’t read far enough.

Section. 10.

Clause 1: No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.

That’s the end of that.

Hawaii is strategic. As long as it is part of the United States nobody is going to deny us a base there. End of story.

I heard about that day, but "sanctioned by all the schools"? Is "Senior Skip Day" or "Ditch Day" sanctioned or condoned by schools on the mainland?

It's an ugly custom, but are teachers and principals encouraging it? The state considered hate crimes legislation against it, though I don't know if that legislation got anywhere. It also maybe worth noting that schools in Hawaii also had "Slap a Jap Day," usually on December 7.

Didn’t know that, but good to know!

Can we please please please give Hawaii their wish on this one (As in, separate country, with a monarchy)?

Article 4, Section 4:

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."

If the Republicans would get back to basics and show some backbone, I don’t thinks we’d have quite as much to worry about. The problem is, they rubber stamps crap programs. They go along to get along. It’s difficult to find a one of them who won’t reach out.

How many Democrats do you see reaching out? It’s amazing what has happened to the Republican party since 1988.

In truth, Reagan had his problems with them too.

It would run smack dab into Article IV, Section 4, which requires every state to have a republican form of government.
