You aren't kidding one bit! In high school they have an end of school year day called "Kill Haole Day!" This is the day they beat the crap out of white kids, aka haoles. And it's sanctioned by all the schools!

I heard about that day, but "sanctioned by all the schools"? Is "Senior Skip Day" or "Ditch Day" sanctioned or condoned by schools on the mainland?

It's an ugly custom, but are teachers and principals encouraging it? The state considered hate crimes legislation against it, though I don't know if that legislation got anywhere. It also maybe worth noting that schools in Hawaii also had "Slap a Jap Day," usually on December 7.

I'm not saying that has not happened here in some isolated incidents but my kids when through school here from grammar school all the way through and nothing like that ever happened anywhere around them. What is posted must not be common knowledge as I have lived here on Maui for forty years and never heard of anything like that.

I shouldn’t have used the word “sanctioned” by the schools. It’s been long tolerated by the schools as it is an unofficial tradition.
