We're not going to pay AP's extortion fees and we're not going to allow them to control free speech!

This is our Boston tea Party.
The Associated Press wants to levy a $12.50 and up license fee (aka extortion fee) on any blogger who quotes more than 4 words from one of their propaganda pieces. This is an outrageous attempt to control the blogosphere and free speech itself. To hell with their license fee and to hell with the AP. Any AP article that gets posted to FR will be jettisoned into the harbor posthaste.
Please do not post any AP material to FR excerpted or not.

As my first name in Andrew and my second is Richard, I will expect that for any article posted here using those two words, I will have my Paypal account credited by $100. This is just business, really. Oh, and words that incorporate PARTS of my name will be credited at half the rate, so watch out for the use of AND and RICH. Individual letters found in my names will be at a bargin of five cents each. I figure that by the end of the year, I should own the planet, and Bill Gates will be doing my tech support.
Don't let me down guys!

FR could have prevailed against such types if it had a sugar daddy willing to put up six years worth of operating expenses for a defense. And that is the problem in a nutshell- it takes a lot of money to even try to stop this sort of thing. I do hope someone, somewhere does put up the money to take this issue all the way- I do think it could be stopped.
I am not a Supreme Court justice- but I see posting articles on the internet for discussion as no different than folks sharing the morning paper and discussing articles in a coffee shop. I also do not see why any news organization would not want their work distributed. In the real world, not everyone that reads a paper or magazine paid to read it, and certainly not everyone that discusses an article pays for the right. It doesn't make sense to me at all.

Turnabout is fair play. Be sure to send a bill to AP (and the 4,000 papers that carry their articles) if they quote any FR threads.
More FR content is working its way into the news media and “discussion” of things from the Obama rumors to exposure of media forgeries.
AP would have a hard time arguing “fair use” in light of the stance they are adopting.

I think we should start charging AP the same amount if they quote more than four words from our posts. The management of AP must be really, really dense. 4 words? LOL!

Good, no more wasting time reading something from the Associated Pravda anyway.

The blogosphere should immediately start writing articles quoting unrelated AP dispatches as political criticism with patches of increasing length until they file action.
Let them go broke trying to enforce this witless, cynical, and illegal expansion of the scope of copyright laws, never mine unconstitutional free speech.
Doesn't AP enjoy an effective monopoly that until now was protected as a public service? Hmmmm...

It will be interesting to see how Drudge handles this.

There is a cow pasture just across the street from me.
If I want to read something from AP. I just tear the middle of a page out and stare at the mounds in that pasture.
Same content.

According to Jim’s post, I’d say yes. No sense in giving AP the hits.
I do wonder what’ll become of the fauxtography exposes of AP’s propaganda.
