A Day in the Life of President Bush (in France): 6-14-08

On his second day in Paris, President Bush met again with French President Nicolas Sarkozy as the two leaders held a joint news conference at the Elysee Palace. (Transcript)

Afterwards, President Sarkozy lead President Bush to the US Ambassador’s residence in Paris where the Flamme de la Liberte (Flame of Liberty) sculpture was unveiled. The sculpture is a full size replica of the flame in the Statue of Liberty’s torch.

From there, President Bush traveled to the Suresnes American Cemetery and Memorial in Paris where American soldiers who died during World War I and II are buried. The president also laid a wreath at the Mont Valerien Memorial, which honors members of the French Resistance executed by German soldiers during World War II.

First Lady Laura Bush traveled to Giverny, France, west of Paris, and toured the Museum of American Painters and the garden of French impressionist painter Claude Monet.

Wonderful thoughts when I see the pictures of President Bush and Laura. I just can not imagine how it will be with either of the Presidential candidates. Oh My!
Fortunately I have lived long enough to remember the Carter year’s and we made it through that so there is hope.
Often wonder how comforting it must be to be an Historian.

You’ll notice there are no staged photos of the President coming across an overturned flag and solemnly placing it back on the grave. ;o)

Thanks for posting so many great pics. I'm so glad President Bush went with the dark suit here because Sarkozy's been sticking with the dark suit and black tie for a while now.

American media call him “unpopular President Bush” but his photos with other leaders of countries show that the “unpopular” is in the minds of the reporters, not the people President Bush meets.

Thank you for these wonderful pictures. Truly, thank you.

I do wish the “Thank You President Bush” read: “Thank You President George W. Bush”. (I want that for the kids in my family ;-) )

Thank you for the great photos. This thread always keeps me inspired! It’s sad the MSM never has and never will have photos like those displayed here . I’m going to miss President Bush.
Thank You President and Mrs. Bush!!!

I’m good. I was going to take some pet supplies down to the evacuee shelter that’s taking pets, but they seem to have all they need.

The infrastructure and the voluntary nature of folks here seems to be very good. There are volunteers everywhere, the National Guard and local governments have supplied plenty of sand, there’s water and food for folks, it seems everything is as good as it can be under the circumstances. Thanks for the offer.
