And what if, Heaven forbid of course, the Honorable Justice Kennedy conked out tonight, what if? No sympathy...he doesn't have that sexy celeb personality that Russert exuded and that Freepers seem to admire so much.

What a shock! I actually found myself crying about this in the car today - it was just such a shock.
I watched him almost every Sunday for years
His enthusiasm for politics was unmatched and his eloquence especially about his father and his son was wonderful.
How sad Too young

That’s a faction of the party. GOPers have factions as well. I don’t affiliate myself with Snowe, Schwarznegger, or McCain, for that matter.

Watching the NBC special on him now.It speaks of him being a *very* devout Catholic.Anyone know if he was a *real* Catholic or a Kennedy “Abortion and Homosexual Marriage Are Just Peachy” type of Catholic?

These people are so full of hate, I don’t know where to begin.
Tim Russert was a liberal, but he did a good job of being as fair as possible. However, politically, Tim was someone who the Kos morons would consider one of their “own” more or less - albeit he was much less extreme.
Here we, the eeeeeeeeeeeevil right-wing conspiracy types, are honoring this man, and the people over there are saying hateful stuff like this?

Questions of timing and propriety aside Oy vey. It's that kind of thinking that has led to the death of good manners in our society.

Despite Russerts relative youth, upon reflection this is not a bad way to go. Struck down suddenly in your prime and at your post, doing the work you love while people still appreciate the way you do it. I worked in a hospital ER for 20 years. As you can imagine I saw a lot of death during those years. Some by natural causes and some not. Some were "expected" and many were anything but expected.I used to have mini debates with fellow staff members about how we'd like to go.Most agreed with you and were baffled by my attitude.
I'd like to have a few more years than did Russert.A lot more years,in fact. And I'd like some warning....so I could mend any fences that might need mending and to try to tie up loose ends.
Particularly with my Creator.

Was Russert on the Clinton enemies list? A heart attack is easily mimicked by other means of death.

It is indeed a very sad day for Journalism.
...While I did not always agree with what Mr. Russert said from time to time, my heartfelt condolences go out to his family...and I will be sending a card. :-(

Same here; I was out running errands all afternoon with an ipod running (no news on radio stations). I refreshed Drudge to see what oil did today and boom. Totally shocked.
In fact, his headline says “Russert Dead at NBC,” and right away I thought Russert had been fired.

Several guys from my company were stuck in a high floor corner suite during that fire (which was during Comdex 1980). Very creepy jumper stories (my coworkers all survived).

Dude, don’t be a d*ck.
The man is dead. He was one of the more decent journalists in the business, and many of us agreed with that before today.

Positively disgusting, isn’t it?
I think a couple of low class people on this thread need to join the DU posters.

Long flight, jet lag, possible residual dehydration = blood clot. Agreed.

FROM NBC:
Russerts physician, Michael Newman, said cholesterol plaque ruptured in an artery, causing sudden coronary thrombosis.
Russert had earlier been diagnosed with asymptomatic coronary artery disease, but it was well-controlled with medication and exercise, and he had performed well on a stress test in late April, Newman said. An autopsy revealed that he also had an enlarged heart, Newman said.
