Question:
I lead the diversity and inclusion function and we have 12 regional diversity councils that we bring together at a summit once a year. This year we are having a segment called "Ask the White Guys." Our objective is to include the white guy in the diversity conversation. Any suggestions or things we ought to think about as we moderate this segment?
Answer:
I suggest you not do this.
Diversity management is a disciplined business subject that, properly implemented, drives productivity, innovation, profitability and sustainability. It does not mean that people have an open license to sound off on their opinions.

"As an African American male I am concerned about inclusive (in this case the "White Guys") until there is some clarification ( ground rules). People of color and particularly Blacks need to have a discussion about their personal, yet similar experience being Black. When ever I have been in meeting to discuss diversity, the majority "White Guys/Girls" tended to "water down" the subject, make it too inclusive i.e., reminding everyone that they/parents are from foreign countries, migrated to the US and worked hard (not for free obviously) to get to where they are today. The problem (my opinion) is that these remarks point to a much more complicated problem, "race" ignorance, not exclusively among Whites. By the time everyone (People of color in attendance) finishes explaining/educating White on the history of Black American, Civil rights, etc. the intent of the meeting can be lost." Looks like diversity simply means “shut your d*mned mouth cracker and do as you’re told!”
Ask if diversity means “division”
Ask if Diversity means we segregate into our own groups.
Ask if Diversity means we can join in other ways of life.
Ask if diversity means we have to stay with our own.
So... my opinion is wrong. That’s inclusiveness if I ever saw it.
So the white guy has no opinion?
Nice diversity.
How can it possibly be “diverse” without 75% of the population (white, I mean; not white men).
Diversity=Balkanization.
Maybe the "black guys" need to stop assuming that "all whites are racist and should pay reparations to black guys". Some of "my" ancestors "were" guilty---but they're long dead, and the (Yankee) ones that owned slaves later fought in the Civil War to free slaves. And I'm sure the "black guys" would be surprised to hear it, but my SOUTHERN ancestors never owned any.
Diveristy is racism.
Celebrating all the so-called wonderful attributes of diversity without free opinion, thought or speech.
Freaking fascists!
The pendulum has swung.
When I was young, being white was an advantage, but the pendulum was just beginning to swing the other way. It picked up momentum, and when I was a young man, it seemed that equality was on the near horizon. Equality is ideal, and it’s what we should all strive to make happen.
I didn’t realize how widespread white guilt is in America. I also didn’t realize how racist the black race panderers could be. They have pushed the pendulum past center to the other side.
It is now a decided disadvantage to be a white male in America. A white male Christian? Forget about it. Anyone is free to offend me in any way. As for white males, even inadvertent slights to other groups can be costly.
I’m very sorry for what my sons will have to deal with, but the deck is stacked against them in the name of “equality”.
Deeter: There, I am insane now.
... too inclusive...
Including whites is “too inclusive”...does that means there is such a thing as “too much diversity” when it comes to the “black experience”?
...”the history” of Blacks in America is instead just one narrative that passes for group think on racial issues. Any exceptions that upset that narrative are just too much to accept in your view. Pretty lame.
Rherorical question.
How dare you offer your non-diverse opinion. Don’t you know that diversity is for everyone but you? /s
B*llocks to diversity and the sham cottage industry that has grown up around it.
Show up, do your job and go home. End of.
We don’t care what color you are, what music you listen to, or what religion you practice.
If any of those three things constitute your “job” then you are a charlatan and anyone else paying money to rid themselves of the “sin” of meritocracy is wasting their cash.
“Diversity” is often code talk for “down with whitey.”
Like many people, I am tired of being expected to feel guilty. And even if I did buy into “white guilt” no amount of groveling would ever satisfy the hate filled people who demand this.
But it ain't "equality", is it?
I am guessing that by the tone of this irrational rambling that the author of this particular response sees the intent of these kinds of meetings as being a way to show whitey how they have oppressed and continue to oppress blacks.
I see stuff like this from black people far too often yet whenever you hear talks about racism it is always in the form of a lecture to white people. The race baiters do have one thing right though, this IS a racist country. Only the racism and bigotry much more often than not comes from blacks who expect and demand special treatment because of what happened to their ancestors a over a century ago. Race relations will never be that great until one particular race, or the many races in this country, finally stops playing the victim at every turn.
