The edge of the Marcellus Shale in Northeast PA and NY is about 100 miles from NYC, which means the gas needs only a very short trip by pipeline to the major metropolitan centers.
Natural gas is the cleanest of the fossil fuels and also is a source for hydrogen for hydrogen powered vehicles.
So here are a bunch of "concerned citizens" planning to oppose it with all their might.
"The Damascus group has plans to pursue all avenues to stop the drilling, which include the use of moratoriums and other legal actions in the courts. It announced at the meeting that the group had enlisted the services of Richard Lippes, a renowned environmental attorney who was instrumental in winning a $129 million lawsuit for residents of the Love Canal section of Niagara Falls, NY, against Occidental Petroleum." The Chevy Volt IMHO should be made NG fueled only to get it of the refinery grid.
The Northeast could buy tons of them and like vehicles of this planform which can be scaled at some point. Great range, and very low emissions.
We and the Northeast Liberals can then tell the Saudi's were they could pound their sand.

They are typical ignorant Liberals who are jealous for one. They see the families with a drilling rig on their land, reaping a healthy retirement for land use and royalties.
Their claims are completely bogus and any half baked technical witness will make them out to be the complete morons they truly are. No court will close down drilling based on their ridiculous claims. They can’t because the drilling is done on private land and the drilling contractor is licensed and the project is overseen by the State and environmental authorities.
These projects are opposed by a smattering of moonbats who show up at local government meetings and exercise an influence far beyond their numbers.
If conservatives showed up at these meetings these leftists would be beat them everytime, and they’d crawl back in their holes and disappear. But for some unknown reason, conservatives do not show at meetings. I don’t know why.
We were warned by the Founders that if we wanted to keep this government we needed to be informed and involved. The lack of participation in local government is one of the primary reasons we are losing our country. If small government advocates attended meetings, we could take back our country in a decade and drive the left wingers over the cliff. They are, after all, cowards and find strength only in our silence.
But nobody asks them whom they’re conserving it for. The only alternative to supply demand is for other countries NOT to conserve, then we have to import, which is expensive, and then use expensive treatments to make it blend enough to burn right because not all natural gas is the same: LB (imported gas) tends to be lighter and not as heat producing as natural gas found under the US.
They’re not ‘conserving’ it for anything. Their guiding principle is that we should use less energy. And, they are quite content to force the rest of us to use less by restricting supplies and increasing costs to where we are forced to use less.
I am to the point where I want to see all these types of lawsuits punished with life in prison.

The inmates are in charge of the asylum, and it is time we took it all back. They have run amuck and are not thinking, they are just “feeling”.
When they all have to sign the front of a paycheck for a business, instead of the back of a trust fund check, then they can sit at the table and make monumental decisions.
Until they put in 60-80 hours a week trying to keep a business going, with employees who are expecting a paycheck every week, and government agencies who paper a business to death with forms and regulations and fees, they can just STFU.

Alot of these “meetings” are held at hours of the day when conservatives are working. The trust fund moonbats are never working, so they schedule meetings during business hours, and they don’t heavily publicize them, as they don’t want any opposition and the other viewpoint.

Exactly, but they keep SAYING they want to "CONserve", rather then "PREserve" (not use ever) it. This is known as lying, and we keep letting them get away with it.
Lunatics just like that are why we don't have any new nuclear poer plants and why the US went from one of the top producers of oil to WAY down in the ranks during the Clinton administration. And don't even get me started on logging. They have been proven over and over again to have no clue what they are talking about, and yet because they are given enough of a voice to convince the public there is a majority which does not, in fact exist (climate change "consensus", anyone), the public shuts it's collective eyes and lets these blind, narrow lunatics lead our energy policy.
Because conservatives are busy having a life. For the eco-nutcases, protesting IS their life.
If they don’t want us to drill in this area, we should shut down all gas, oil, and gasoline transportation serving these morons, since all of these are ‘dangerous.’
We have to know about them first. Thus the importance of telling people this is coming.
I don't know about contaminated drinking water or carcinogens in the farmland, but there were no roads or only gravel roads in this area before the gas well, now they are paved. The site dates back to the 1970's and there has never been an explosion. The real estate prices have actually gone up since people want to live on land with valuable mineral rights, and I have never been able to hear any noise, but I have never gotten close to the well.
Have the protesters ever visited a gas well and/or looked at before/after scenarios, I wonder.

Haynesville Shale meeting draws hundreds
They’re saying the hydraulic extraction process makes a mess and makes the drinking water stink. They also say it releases hundreds of chemicals into the water table. There is no mention of concentrations on the home page of the site.
Of course, the chemicals were already there, and natural gas has no scent (mercaptan is added to give the distinct aroma) so some of what they say is pure bs. Well, most of it.
Probably all of it. :)
