May 27, 2008 -- The polar bears are doing just fine, thank you very much.
So says Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who announced last week that her state would sue to block Washington from listing the animals as "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act.
And it's a good thing, too - because the new bear-population protections mask what may be the most serious threat to American economic might in decades.
Yes, polar bears.
The polar bear, you see, marks the first species on the "threatened" list whose supposed predicament is linked directly to global warming.
The current Alaskan polar-bear population may be near an all-time high.
But Interior Department computer models - such as they are - project widespread melting of the polar ice the bears need to hunt.
And that's a big problem, given the near-limitless powers embedded in the Endangered Species Act.

I would love so see someone like her backhand the EPA all the way back to the Stone Age.

Dont Polar Bears eat baby Harp Seals? Maybe, but you need a whole lotta seals for a coat. You only need one bear for a rug.

I have some baby Harp Seal boots and a Polar Bear coat. But living in Alabama limits the number of days I can wear them.

I read somewhere that she actually had to spend time in front of the mirror to "ugly" herself up a little before appearing in public out of fear some jealous females would vote against her for being beautiful.
My youngest daughter actually has the same problem. Being beautiful isn't always easy.

"Scary stuff. Is she a global warmist or not? "I know very little about her personally. What I DO know is conservation, economics and the oil industry. I would say from reading that that she is a politician paying lip service to the envirowackos. She has to look like she shares those concerns or she loses votes. After all, if she were the brain dead alarmist type, she wouldn't be threatening to sue over the whole polar bear scam.

"Where, Oh Where, can I find a written account of the process of deliberate, rational analysis of relevant data, by reputable and qualified scientists, that led to the conclusion that carbon dioxide, uniquely among the several substances and energy sources that contribute to the warming of our planets gaseous atmosphere, is responsible for the claimed current warming trend, a trend which, even as I write this, may actually have become a trend toward a lower rate of warming?"When you find out, please ping the rest of us, because we can't find it either.

"I would love so see someone like her backhand the EPA all the way back to the Stone Age."Oh, me too. Regardless of whatever differences of opinion we might have in other areas, I'd be 100% behind her on that. And let's face it, if she doesn't get support, she won't get anywhere in her fight against the EPA. I've been fighting the envirowhackos since 1975...the enemy of our enemy IS our friend.

If she were a true conservative, she would make an attractive VP. Yeah, physically too.

"How can we file an amicus curiea (sp?) suit in support of Alaskas effort?"Um yes, but I THINK you are thinking of legal intervention, in which non parties join in ongoing litigation...like a class action lawsuit. An amicus curiae literally translates to "friend of the court", and there's a Clinton appointee in that district. The amicus curiae helps the court to make it's finding of fact in difficult cases. While that could help, I wouldn't recommend it as a matter of course in this instance.
