This Real ID stuff is really ominous. Are you sure that you can prove that you are who you are? Do you have all of your documents in order? If not, well, who knows?
You may not be able to board a plane, you may not be able to get a driver's license or passport. You may not be able to leave the country. If you discover that Real ID is a bad idea, you may not be able to undo it, because you may not be able to vote!
I have a friend who grew up in a communist country. He told me that the Nazis instituted ID requirements when they took over his country. The communists loved it and kept it on.

HR4437, the bill that started this, was something we were all for. Have they gummed it up since it was passed?
What do you suggest to ID aliens to keep them off airliners and keep them from voting?

These are all good reasons for conservatives to want a federal ID system.
IMHO, it should still be feared.
I fear ANY info the FEDS think they are entitled to.
While they're at it they should repeal the law requiring ID for purchasing liqueur.

Not necessarily. However, being a police state would probably make meeting the requirements much easier.
The government is not mandating you to do anything. You can sit your house, travel between states, do whatever floats your boat BY YOURSELF, and you won’t have any issues.
Please... we were not ALL for it. I have thought the whole notion utterly anathema to a free society. As have many others on this board. However, we were all shouted down by the “true conservatives” who can’t seem to find any fault in Big Brother.
If Bush were truly interested in dealing with illegal aliens, we would have done much more to seal the borders. This is aimed at U.S. citizens only.
I find plenty of fault with it, one thing being that it gives more $$$ back to the private prisons for detaining instead of deporting like they should. The same prisons systems that donate BIG $$$ to Bush, McCain, etc.
We already have national ID. The SS card, our Driver license, etc. What is everyone so afraid of? There’s also a lot of conspiracy rantings over this of people who have something to hide.

If a state doesn't want to produce licenses that conform, that's just fine. Their residents will have to get passports or some other ID to fly. Air travel safety is the Federal government's responsibility. Allowing just anyone to board a plane is an abdication of that responsibility. The Constitution guarantees us the right to travel, not fly anonymously.
Same for voting. Every fraudulent vote cancels out a valid one. I don't want dead people, people who have moved away, or people who already voted somewhere else being allowed to cancel my vote with a bogus one.
