Of course Democrats in Congress support the troops. But that doesn't mean they have to tolerate being in the same building with them. From a letter an enraged Fortney Hillman "Pete" Stark, Jr. (D-CA) recently sent to the Secretary of Defense:
Dear Secretary Gates:Yesterday, while voting on the war supplemental spending bill in the House of Representatives, I couldn’t help but notice a contingent of approximately 20 flag rank Army officers sitting in the House Gallery watching the debate and vote for a couple of hours. I was looking from below so I thought they were Army, but there could have been other branches present.
It’s possible they were on leave time or vacation. If so, I obviously have no concern. However, if they were doing this on military time, I want an explanation of why they were there.
At a time when our nation is at war, our troops are over-extended, and the Administration is literally asking for emergency military spending, what good to the “war on terror” is having US Generals and other top ranked officers - who were likely accompanied by staff and escorted by their chauffeurs - spending hours sitting in the gallery of the House of Representatives?
Please provide for me the name, rank, branch, and duties of each of these officers, as well as the number of additional staff and drivers that were used to facilitate their attendance yesterday. I would like this information by Monday, May 19th.
If they were here on official duty, this was an abhorrent misallocation of our military resources at a time of war.

Apparently Stark has enough of a conscience not to want American soldiers to witness their ongoing betrayal by his fellow Dems.
Pretty much my opinion of Stark. The really, REALLY sad part is he carried his district by 76% of the vote in ‘06 here in the Peoples Republic of California, East Bay prefect.

actually, this is a very good point...email going to Mr.Stark and to Mrs. Pelosi asking for a list of the objectives Congress’set forth in 2006 and whether or not each objective was met. The people MUST begin to hold these people accountable. If they worked for a private org they’d be fired!

We need to find out just what perks he has made use of while in Congress, and ask him to account for the expenditure of time and money used for them. In the media, if possible. What a piece of worthless sh*t.

But on the otyher hand, after all the brouhaha, after everything was said and done, just what penalty did Berkeley City Council have to pay for their open and blatant disrespect of our troops? None, nothing. We get all indignant, a Congressman even introduces a bill to strip them of some of their money, but in the end-nothing. If Berkeley didn’t have to pay, then a Congressman from the ‘rat majority certainly isn’t going to have to be held accountable. Our troops defend us, and it seems we are unable to return the favor when they are disrespected. Fortunately they are too loyal and adult to hold it against us.
Shame.
And just what will happen to this a**hole if he doesn’t get his list?
